Position Overview Salt Creek Veterinary Hospital is seeking a dedicated Veterinary Technician to support our veterinarians in providing high-quality medical care to both small and large animal patients throughout our Anson Clinic. As a mixed-animal practice, this role involves clinical, laboratory, farm-call, and client communication responsibilities to ensure efficient workflow and compassionate patient care in both a hospital and on-farm setting. Key Responsibilities Patient Care & Nursing Restrain animals safely and compassionately during exams and procedures Assist with farm calls and large animal restraint, as needed Monitor patient vitals (TPR, pain assessment, anesthesia monitoring) Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as prescribed Provide wound care and post-operative nursing care Assist in emergency and critical care situations Surgical & Anesthesia Support Prepare patients for surgery (IV catheter placement, pre-medication, clipping, scrubbing) Induce, maintain, and monitor anesthesia Assist veterinarians during surgical procedures Maintain sterile technique and surgical suite cleanliness Diagnostics & Laboratory Collect and process samples (blood, urine, fecal, cytology) Run in-house lab tests and prepare samples for external labs Take and position radiographs Ensure all results are transferred and attached to patient files Client Communication & Education Educate clients on medications, review estimates, and preventative care Provide discharge instructions and follow-up care guidance Communicate clearly with clients regarding patient status and needs Ensure medical consent forms are signed prior to procedures Check clients out in rooms and take deposits Facility & Equipment Maintenance Clean and maintain exam rooms, treatment areas, large animal facilities, and equipment Ensure proper handling and storage of medications and supplies Maintain inventory and assist with ordering supplies Operate and maintain mobile veterinary equipment Qualifications Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) certification through the Texas State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners preferred, or actively pursuing certification Prior experience in a veterinary setting preferred; mixed-animal or large-animal experience a plus Knowledge of animal handling, anatomy, and basic medical terminology Strong communication and organizational skills Ability to work in a fast-paced environment Valid driver's license Physical Requirements Ability to lift and restrain animals up to 50+ lbs Stand for extended periods Work in environments with animal dander, odors, and noise Key Skills & Competencies Compassionate animal care Attention to detail Team collaboration Problem-solving in high-pressure situations Time management and adaptability Work Environment May include evenings, weekends, and on-call or emergency shifts Exposure to potentially aggressive animals and zoonotic diseases Work in outdoor and variable Texas weather conditions, including on-site farm and ranch calls Benefits Offered Benefits offered may vary depending on full or part time employment status according to company policy.
