Job Overview - Veterinary Technician Urgent Paws Veterinary Care is seeking a skilled, compassionate, and motivated Veterinary Technician to join our growing urgent care team in Midlothian, VA. This role is integral to delivering high-quality, efficient medical care in a fast-paced urgent care setting. Veterinary Technicians at Urgent Paws work collaboratively with veterinarians and support staff to provide exceptional patient care while supporting clients during stressful and emotional situations. This position offers an opportunity to practice advanced technical skills, contribute meaningfully to patient outcomes, and be part of a supportive, team-focused environment. Schedule & Availability Requirements Urgent Paws Veterinary Care is a 7-day-a-week practice , and weekend availability is an essential requirement of this position. Employees should expect to be scheduled for weekend shifts as part of their regular work schedule. Urgent Paws is open all holidays except Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day . Employees should expect to work holidays when scheduled, with the exception of these two practice-closed holidays. Because we provide urgent care, our team must be dependable and available to meet the needs of our patients and clients throughout the week, including weekends and holidays. Responsibilities Perform patient triage, obtain patient vital signs, and obtain thorough, urgent-care-focused patient histories Provide skilled nursing care including catheter placement, sample collection, laboratory procedures, radiology, and anesthesia monitoring Assist with and support urgent and emergent procedures, including general surgery Accurately calculate, prepare, and administer medications and treatments as directed Monitor hospitalized patients and promptly report changes in condition to the veterinarian Educate clients on medical diagnoses, laboratory results, treatment plans, and next steps for optimal patient care Maintain accurate records of controlled substances in accordance with all applicable state and federal regulations Maintain accurate medical records and support efficient patient flow Uphold high standards of cleanliness, organization, and patient care Collaborate effectively with the medical and client service teams to ensure excellent communication and continuity of care Manage the caseload of incoming patients in conjunction with the veterinarian on duty. Contribute to a positive workplace culture by demonstrating professionalism, accountability, teamwork, and respect for fellow team members Maintain a willingness to learn, accept feedback, and continuously develop technical skills and knowledge Physical Requirements Ability to safely restrain, handle, and lift animals weighing up to 50 pounds Ability to bend, kneel, stoop, reach, and remain on your feet for extended periods, including 8-10 hours at a time Ability to work safely around animals, animal waste, biohazardous materials, and various chemicals Experience & Qualifications Credentialed Veterinary Technician (LVT, RVT, or CVT) required. Prior experience in emergency or urgent care medicine strongly preferred but not required Strong technical, critical thinking, and multitasking skills Ability to work efficiently and remain calm in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment Excellent communication skills and a compassionate, professional demeanor Dependable and reliable attendance, ability to work weekends Ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative, team-centered environment Commitment to providing compassionate, high-quality patient and client care Basic to advanced computer skills and the ability to efficiently learn and utilize veterinary practice management software, electronic medical records, laboratory systems, and other computer-based technology Commitment to maintaining accurate medical records and following established protocols and regulatory requirements Commitment to cultivating a positive work environment that values supporting team members and respecting the thoughts and work of others Why Join Urgent Paws?
