SUMMARY:
The Custody Domestic Relations Officer (DRO) will have direct contact with litigants and attorneys, conduct intake conferences, determine case path, vet procedural sufficiency of case filings, enter custody Court Orders, review and synthesize legal documents, research case dockets, perform case management, and prepare cases to be heard by the Hearing Officer or Judge.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Minimum of a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution. Experience in the social services, or related experience working with children and families. Excellent communication skills; ability to work with and be exposed to various levels of authority. Solid computer skills and experience in a Windows environment, including proficiency with Microsoft Word. Knowledge and/or experience in dispute resolution and the ability to resolve difficult/high conflict case situations. Knowledge of child custody. Ability to work independently, handle a high volume of work, and exercise critical thinking and good judgement. Ability to meet time restrictions and adhere to deadlines. Ability to be detail oriented and timely with documentation. Excellent organization skills. Must have the ability to work under pressure, and deal with stress associated and time restrictions. The individual is expected to fully perform position responsibilities within six months of assumption of duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Create and enter custody consent orders. Collaborate with other staff members, attorneys, advocates, and appropriate parties to best assist litigants. Assist and direct Custody Department clerical staff. Interface closely with other departments. Review of documents and complete related paperwork and issue associated orders. Determine case path to schedule custody cases, and issue related orders. Assist litigants in-person, as well as over the phone and through email, with filing for custody, questions about the custody process and case management, and help litigants identify and prepare appropriate paperwork. Screen clients for appropriate custody motions, and provide instructions and paperwork, as necessary. Identify emergency requests and forward as appropriate. Perform other activities relevant to custody cases, and other special assignments or functions. Provide essential back-up coverage for required PFA Department DRO tasks, on an as-needed basis.
