Job Description
LPS Court Hearing Coordinator entails working in a California inpatient psychiatric facility; the role generally focuses on coordinating the legal process for patients under the Lanterman-Petris-Short (LPS) Act , including conservatorship and related hearings.
THIS ROLE REQUIRES SPECIFIC EXPERIENCE
•Position Summary The LPS Court Hearing Coordinator coordinates and supports court-related activities for psychiatric inpatients who are subject to LPS holds, petitions, or conservatorship proceedings. The coordinator works closely with social workers, treatment teams, physicians, county Public Guardian/behavioral health personnel, attorneys, court representatives, and hospital administration to ensure that required legal documents, notices, and hearings are completed accurately and within required timelines. Key Responsibilities Court & Hearing Coordination Coordinate court hearings for patients involved in LPS proceedings. Maintain a calendar of upcoming conservatorship, writ, probable cause, and other applicable hearings. Confirm hearing dates, locations, transportation, tele court/video arrangements, and patient availability. Notify appropriate hospital staff and treatment team members of scheduled hearings. Coordinate patient access to attorneys and other legal representatives. Ensure patients are informed of applicable hearing rights and procedures. Legal Documentation Track required legal documents and deadlines. Assist with preparation and routing of petitions, declarations, certifications, notices, and other court-related documents. Verify that documents are complete, accurate, signed by the appropriate individuals, and submitted to the appropriate agency/court. Maintain copies of court orders and hearing outcomes in accordance with facility policy. Monitor expiration dates of holds and conservatorships and communicate upcoming deadlines to the treatment team.
Interdisciplinary Coordination Work closely with:
Psychiatric social workers Psychiatrists and other physicians Nursing staff County Behavioral Health Public Guardian/Conservator's Office Patient attorneys/public defenders Court personnel Communicate changes in hearing status or legal status to the appropriate treatment team. Patient Support Explain the hearing process to patients in understandable terms, within the scope of the coordinator's role. Facilitate communication between patients and their attorneys. Help ensure patients are aware of scheduled hearings and opportunities to participate. Coordinate accommodation when needed, such as interpreter services. Educational Requirements Minimum requirement - BA Degree with experience
Social Worker LMFT Pay:
$30.00 - $35.00 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 per week
