Job Description

Bring your expertise in visual impairment education to a dynamic school environment near Bellevue, WA! A contract position is available for a dedicated professional with a background in teaching students with visual impairments and Braille proficiency. This rewarding role is ideal for those committed to helping students develop critical skills for independence and academic success.
Key Qualifications:
Valid certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) or equivalent credentials Demonstrated experience working with students who are blind or visually impaired in school settings Proficiency in reading and transcribing Braille (Braille certification or significant Braillist experience preferred) Understanding of assistive technology for visually impaired students (screen readers, magnification devices, Braille notetakers) Strong communication skills for collaborating with families, educators, and related service providers Ability to create, adapt, and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) based on each students needs
Responsibilities:
Provide direct instruction in Braille literacy, orientation and mobility, and adapted academic content Assess students educational needs and skills related to vision loss Develop and implement lesson plans tailored to individuals and small groups Collaborate with classroom teachers to modify curriculum and ensure accessibility Train staff and family members on strategies and technology that support visual impairment Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to ongoing progress monitoring Advocate for accessible learning environments and inclusion in all school activities
