24/72 Position Overview We are seeking qualified, motivated individuals to join our team as Firefighter/Paramedics . This is an opportunity to serve the community while working in a professional, team-oriented public safety environment. Minimum Requirements — Entry LevelAge Candidates who are 20 years of age are eligible to take the initial examination for firefighter. However, no appointment to the Fire Department will be made until the candidate reaches 21 years of age . All candidates must generally be under 35 years of age , except as otherwise provided by statute, including: Individuals previously employed as a full-time firefighter in a regularly constituted fire department of any municipality or fire protection district located in Illinois. Individuals who have served a municipality as a regularly enrolled volunteer, paid-on-call, or part-time firefighter. Individuals who turned 35 while serving as a member of the active or reserve components of any branch of the Armed Forces of the United States or the National Guard of any state, whose service was characterized as honorable or under honorable conditions, if separated from the military and currently under 40 years of age. Education High school diploma or equivalent. Paramedic Certification or Enrollment At the time of application, candidates must either be enrolled in a paramedic program or possess one of the following certifications/licenses: Illinois Paramedic License National Registry Paramedic Registered Nurse License Pre-Hospital Registered Nurse Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Pre-Hospital Physician Assistant who has met the applicable requirements under the Emergency Medical Services System Act (210 ILCS 50) Additional Requirements Must be a United States citizen . Must demonstrate good moral character , as determined through a background investigation.
