Job Description

Summary of Essential Functions:
Issue tickets (or warnings if applicable) to traffic violators, completing all applicable records, according to established department and/or town policy. Warn or arrests persons violating animal ordinances. Disperse unruly crowds at public gatherings. Direct and/or reroute traffic around fire or other disruption. Investigate and prepare reports involving traffic accidents within the town limits of Calera. Prepare daily activity report and notify Chief of other department personnel regarding specific unusual conditions, events, suspicious persons, etc. Assist in the investigation of crimes, taking information, writing reports, talking with witnesses, etc., to solicit information, etc. Testify in court regarding incidents and circumstances of arrests, criminal activities, etc., verifying crime scene information and reports. Prepare reports to document arrest information, such as name, address, charge, and arresting officer. Process prisoners who are to be confined in the jail, according to established department and/or town policy and procedure, observing all applicable ordinances and state/federal regulations. Demonstrate responsibility for safe, economical use of town equipment and supplies, reporting needs for repair and/or replacement to appropriate individual in a timely manner, in order to keep repair costs to a minimum. Demonstrate sensitivity and responsibility for appropriate communications with elected officials, administrative staff, department heads, other departmental employees and the public, relaying appropriate information as necessary. Demonstrate responsibility for compliance with all departmental and organizational policies, safety practices and applicable regulatory requirements.
