Police Corporal

Job Description

The Police Corporal assists in supervising and participating in the enforcement of federal, state, and local laws and the protection of life and property. Assists supervisor on an assigned shift to ensure adherence with department rules, regulations, and policies; assists supervisor in the review of reports completed by subordinate officers; supervises staff in the absence of shift supervisor; assists in the evaluation of shift personnel. Conducts shift briefings and assigns patrol zones in the absence of the Sergeant; monitors patrol activities. Patrols the city to detect and deter crime; enforces local ordinances, state law, and federal law; performs community policing activities; inspects businesses; issues warnings and citations; makes arrests. Responds to calls for service; maintains the safety of the public by responding to disputes, accidents, alarms, criminal incidents, and other emergency incidents. Investigates motor vehicle accidents; ensures scene safety; interviews witnesses; prepares related reports. Performs traffic stops on vehicles for traffic violations; issues citations or warnings; makes arrests as warranted. Apprehends, arrests, and processes offenders; completes arrest forms. Conducts investigations of crime scenes; identifies, collects, and preserves evidence; interviews victims, witnesses, and suspects. Documents observations and actions by radioing information and completing reports. Provides assistance in the event of medical emergencies; radios for medical assistance as needed. Provides assistance and backup support to other officers and emergency service providers as necessary. Provides traffic direction as needed for events such as parades, funerals, events, and school crossings Testifies in judicial proceedings as necessary. Completes all required reports and forms, including accident and incident reports. Inspects and maintains assigned patrol car, uniform, and equipment. High School Diploma or GED; Three (3) years of experience in a related field; Or equivalent training, education, and/or experience; and Valid State of Georgia Driver's License; Georgia P.O.S.T. certification; Preferred Qualifications Georgia P.O.S.T. Field Training Certification; Georgia P.O.S.T. Intermediate Certification; and Georgia P.O.S.T. Supervision Level I Completion of 3 of the Georgia P.O.S.T. Intermediate or Advanced Certification Courses. The selected candidate must complete the following requirements prior to starting with the
