The City of Louisville Civil Service Commission will conduct an open competitive written examination for the purpose of establishing an eligibility list for the position of full-time Police Officer for the City of Louisville on Saturday, September 19, 2026 at 9:00 a.m. Civil Service applications and more information is available on the City website at www.louisvilleohio.gov or Louisville City Hall. Deadline to submit Civil Service application and required documents is September 2, 2026 by 4:00 p.m.

Definition:

Under the direct supervision of the shift Lieutenant and the Chief of Police, or the direction of an Officer-in-Charge (O.I.C.) performs the duties of a sworn police officer as defined by Ohio Revised Code.

Position Functions:

Preserves life and protects property through focused patrol activities; enforces traffic and criminal laws of Ohio, the City of Louisville and the United States Government; responds immediately to calls for assistance of a police emergency nature; investigates crimes and crime scenes to bring about adjudication of offenders; performs other duties as required.

Required Knowledge and Abilities:

Knowledge of law enforcement, crime detection and investigative techniques; knowledge of Ohio law, City ordinances, and applicable federal statutes; ability to testify in court; ability to make competent decisions under pressure; ability to handle crisis situations.

Minimum Qualifications:

Ability to be Ohio Peace Officer certified; possession of a valid Ohio driver's license; physical and mental capacity to function effectively as a peace officer; ability to pass a firearms exam; high school diploma, ability to pass physical and psychological testing and background investigation to include a polygraph. Must be at least twenty-one years of age at the time of examination.
