Description We are looking for a detail-oriented Legal Assistant to support a busy municipal legal environment. This contract position with potential for a permanent role is ideal for someone who combines administrative strength with legal support experience and can manage time-sensitive requests with professionalism. The role works fully onsite and offers the opportunity to contribute to public records, contract coordination, research, and meeting support in a government setting.
Responsibilities:
Coordinate the collection and organization of contract documents from multiple departments to support legal review and recordkeeping.
Prepare accurate meeting notes and formal summaries for internal discussions and official proceedings.
Manage a high volume of open records requests each day, ensuring timely responses and proper documentation.
Review documents for confidential content and complete redactions in accordance with applicable policies and legal standards.
Maintain databases and filing systems to keep legal and administrative records current, searchable, and well organized.
Draft proclamations, correspondence, and other support documents for municipal and legal operations.
Attend council meetings twice per month and provide administrative and documentation support, including flexibility with adjusted hours on meeting days.
Conduct research using case materials and related sources to assist with legal and policy-related questions. Requirements
Previous experience in a legal assistant, paralegal, records, or administrative support role within a legal or government environment.
Strong ability to prepare meeting minutes, manage contracts, and perform legal or policy research.
Working knowledge of public records handling, document redaction, and organized records management practices.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and comfort learning or using AI-assisted productivity tools such as Copilot.
Excellent written communication skills with the ability to produce clear, accurate, and detail-oriented documentation.
Highly self-directed and proactive, with the ability to manage competing priorities in an onsite setting.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when handling sensitive information.
