Located in one of West Dundee's historic landmark buildings just off Route 72, our firm serves clients throughout Kane, McHenry, and DeKalb Counties . We have built our practice around honest legal guidance, personalized representation, responsiveness, and exceptional client service. As our practice continues to grow, we're looking for someone who wants to become an important part of a small legal team—not simply someone looking for another administrative position. The ideal candidate is dependable, organized, professional, comfortable communicating directly with clients, and able to take ownership of their responsibilities while working closely with the attorney and the rest of the team. Our Practice Areas Our firm primarily handles: Family Law Estate Planning Residential Real Estate Commercial Real Estate Business Purchases & Sales General Civil Matters Experience in one or more of these areas is preferred, particularly family law, estate planning, or real estate . About the Position This is a hands-on position combining paralegal, legal assistant, and client-service responsibilities . You will work closely with the attorney to prepare and manage legal matters, communicate with clients and outside professionals, maintain case files and deadlines, and help ensure that cases and transactions move forward efficiently. Because we are a small and growing firm, no two days are exactly alike. We value someone who is willing to learn, problem-solve, take initiative, and pitch in where needed. This position is a great fit for an experienced legal assistant or paralegal who wants to expand their skills and take on increasing responsibility. ResponsibilitiesFamily Law & Litigation Support Assist with family law matters from initial client intake through resolution. Draft and prepare pleadings, motions, petitions, discovery, correspondence, and other legal documents. Assist with discovery, document organization, and preparation of exhibits. Prepare materials for hearings, mediations, depositions, and trials. Organize court filings, exhibits, and trial materials. File documents electronically with Illinois courts and monitor filing deadlines. Maintain accurate case files, calendars, and deadlines. Communicate professionally with clients, opposing counsel, courts, and other professionals as directed by the attorney. Estate Planning Assist with preparation of wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and related estate planning documents. Prepare documents and materials for estate planning meetings. Gather information and documentation from clients. Coordinate document execution and maintain organized client files. Real Estate & Business Transactions Assist with residential and commercial real estate transactions from contract through closing. Communicate with clients, title companies, lenders, real estate professionals, and other parties. Organize transaction documents and monitor important deadlines. Assist with business purchases, sales, and related transactional matters. Prepare and review documents and correspondence under the direction of the attorney. General Legal & Administrative Support Conduct legal research using resources such as LexisNexis and/or Westlaw when appropriate. Proofread and review legal documents for accuracy, consistency, and completeness. Maintain organized electronic and physical case files. Track deadlines, appointments, court dates, and other important dates. Schedule client meetings, hearings, mediations, depositions, and other appointments. Assist with client intake and gathering information needed for legal matters. Communicate professionally with clients, courts, opposing counsel, title companies, lenders, and other professionals. Handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion. Assist with general office and administrative responsibilities as needed. QualificationsWhat We're Looking For 2+ years of paralegal or legal assistant experience preferred, but not required for the right candidate. Family law experience is strongly preferred. Estate planning or real estate experience is a plus. Familiarity with Illinois court procedures and electronic filing is preferred. Strong attention to detail and accuracy. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Ability to manage multiple matters and deadlines simultaneously. Professional and compassionate approach to client communication. Ability to handle confidential information appropriately. Strong proofreading and document-preparation skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Microsoft Office. Ability to work independently while also being a collaborative member of a small team. Dependable, professional, and willing to take ownership of assigned responsibilities. Willingness to learn and grow into additional responsibilities as the firm continues to expand. Helpful Experience The following are helpful but not required: Experience preparing pleadings, discovery, motions, and other litigation documents. Experience with Illinois e-filing systems. Estate planning experience. Residential or commercial real estate experience. Familiarity with LexisNexis and/or Westlaw. Experience with legal case management software. Experience communicating directly with clients and outside professionals. Notary Public certification.
