Non-exempt Reports to: Parking Operations Manager Position Summary The Parking Enforcement Officer patrols on-street and off-street controlled parking areas and enforces applicable municipal and county parking ordinances. This position issues parking citations or warnings, responds to parking-related concerns, assists the public, and ensures that all enforcement documentation is accurate and complete. The Parking Enforcement Officer also assists with parking pay station maintenance, electronic sign boards, speed trailers, traffic-control activities, emergency management operations, and other departmental needs. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Patrol controlled on-street and off-street parking areas. Enforce municipal and county parking ordinances. Issue citations or warnings to vehicles in violation of parking regulations. Ensure that all information recorded on citations is accurate and complete. Maintain and update the daily parking citation log. Coordinate with dispatch regarding the towing, storage, or impoundment of illegally parked or abandoned vehicles. Accurately document towing, storage, and impoundment actions. Respond professionally to parking-related questions, complaints, problems, and violations. Direct unresolved concerns to the appropriate department or personnel. Provide accurate information, directions, and assistance to the public, agency personnel, and business representatives. Assist with the maintenance and operation of parking pay stations. Program and operate electronic sign boards and the speed trailer. Transport and position traffic-control equipment, including stop signs, barricades, and cones. Assist with traffic-related issues and the safe flow of traffic. Operate assigned equipment according to established requirements and report needed repairs. Use two-way radio equipment for official communications. Assist with emergency management operations and other departmental needs. Complete assignments and required reports, documents, and forms accurately and on time. Maintain organized, accurate, and secure records and files. Check and respond to assigned telephone, electronic, or mailbox messages. Attend required meetings, training sessions, and community-relations activities. Maintain a clean, organized, safe, and professional work area. Follow departmental policies, procedures, general orders, attendance requirements, and the established code of ethics. Perform other related duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED). Ability to read, understand, and follow policies, procedures, instructions, and general orders. Ability to learn and apply local parking ordinances. Knowledge of, or ability to learn, the applicable geographic jurisdiction. Ability to operate a vehicle safely in varying traffic and weather conditions. Ability to communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing. Ability to provide courteous and helpful service to members of the public. Ability to use sound judgment, analyze problems, and develop effective solutions. Ability to work productively as part of a team. Ability to follow supervision, guidance, and established procedures. Ability to maintain accurate, complete, legible, and timely records. Ability to operate and care for assigned equipment. Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and complete assignments within established timeframes. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities The successful candidate will demonstrate strong interpersonal, problem-solving, communication, and general comprehension skills. The candidate must be able to interact respectfully and professionally with the public, coworkers, business representatives, and other agency personnel. This position requires reliability, attention to detail, ethical conduct, professional appearance, teamwork, and the ability to remain productive while carrying out enforcement and public-service responsibilities.
