The Electrical Safety Manager provides leadership for all electrical safety, environmental, health, and compliance programs supporting utility transmission, distribution, substation, undergrounding, renewable energy, and EPC construction operations. The role oversees internal EHS personnel and external safety consultants to ensure all electrical work is executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with
OSHA, NFPA
70E, NESC, EPA, utility, and client-specific requirements. Duties /
Responsibilities:
Serve as the company subject matter expert for electrical safety, high-voltage systems, arc flash prevention, energized work, grounding, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and utility construction safety. Collaborate with executive leadership to develop and implement enterprise-wide electrical safety and EHS policies and procedures. Ensure compliance with
OSHA, NFPA
70E, NESC, EPA, state regulations, utility client requirements, and Operator Qualification standards. Lead electrical hazard assessments, job safety analyses, arc flash risk evaluations, and mitigation planning for transmission, distribution, substation, and underground electrical projects. Develop standards for energized work permits, switching procedures, electrical clearances, grounding practices, and isolation plans. Oversee electrical safety inspections, audits, and field assessments to evaluate compliance and program maturity. Investigate electrical incidents, near misses, equipment failures, and serious injury events to determine root causes and corrective actions. Partner with project managers and field operations teams to proactively identify and mitigate electrical hazards before work begins. Review and approve site-specific safety plans, energized work procedures, and project risk mitigation strategies. Provide leadership and oversight for subcontractor electrical safety compliance and corrective action management. Represent the company during client, regulatory, and utility safety reviews and audits. Develop and deliver training related to electrical safety, NFPA 70E, LOTO, trenching, excavation, confined space, and utility construction operations. Support development and continuous improvement of safety management systems for utility and electrical infrastructure projects.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Extensive knowledge of electrical utility construction, including transmission, distribution, substations, underground electric systems, and renewable energy infrastructure. Strong understanding of
NFPA 70E, NESC, OSHA
1910 and 1926 regulations, safe electrical work practices, and arc flash protection requirements. Working knowledge of utility client standards, switching procedures, grounding requirements, and high-voltage operations. Ability to communicate technical electrical safety requirements clearly to executives, clients, supervisors, and craft personnel. Experience conducting incident investigations, root cause analysis, management of change reviews, and corrective action development. Skilled in electrical hazard recognition, risk assessment methodologies, and hierarchy of controls. Excellent leadership, organizational, project management, and recordkeeping abilities. Ability to work effectively in both field and office environments and travel to multiple project locations. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project, Primavera P6, Unifier, ISNetWorld, PowerAdvocate, Veriforce, and Gold Shovel Standard.
Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Engineering, Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, or related field preferred. Minimum 7 years of EHS experience supporting electrical utility, EPC, power delivery, or heavy industrial construction projects. Minimum 4 years managing safety professionals and/or multi-state electrical safety programs.
Preferred certifications:
CSP, CHST, OHST, CUSP, CESCP, OSHA 500/510, NCCER
Construction Site Safety Technician or Supervisor, TapRooT/Apollo/ICAM or similar root cause analysis training, and
DOT/PHMSA
Operator Qualification awareness. OSHA 30-Hour Construction, current First Aid/CPR/AED, and current
NFPA 70E
training or demonstrated equivalent electrical safety competency. Experience supporting public utilities, investor-owned utilities, cooperatives, or power generation organizations strongly preferred.
SALARY RANGE
120-150k/yr depending on experience.
