Health insurance, Paid time off, 401k, Flexible work/life balance About the Role We are seeking a dedicated, hands-on Food Safety & QA Manager to take ownership of our day-to-day food safety, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance programs across our farm growing and packinghouse operations. In this role, you will be the primary lead responsible for maintaining our audit readiness, conducting daily operational walk-throughs, verifying sanitation standards, and serving as the primary facility contact for third-party audits and regulatory inspections. This is an active, on-site role that balances program documentation and record-keeping with direct floor engagement.
Key Responsibilities Audit Defense & Program Ownership:
Maintain, review, and update our standard operating procedures (SOPs) and food safety plans to ensure continuous compliance with PrimusGFS, Pennsylvania Certified Organic (PCO) standards, and federal/state regulations (FDA
FSMA / PA
Department of Agriculture).
Audit Hosting:
Lead and defend our facility during annual third-party audits and routine state/federal inspections; develop and implement effective Corrective Action Plans (CAPs) when needed.
Daily Floor Inspections:
Conduct routine pre-operational walk-throughs, sanitation verifications, and Good Agricultural/Manufacturing Practices (GAP/GMP) monitoring across growing rooms and packinghouse lines.
Environmental & Water Monitoring:
Coordinate routine environmental swabbing schedules, water sampling, and product testing; track and log all laboratory results.
Traceability & Mass Balance:
Oversee the mock recall and traceability programs, ensuring accurate lot tracking, harvest records, and organic mass-balance documentation from farm to customer shipment.
Sanitation & Hygiene Verification:
Collaborate with harvesting, packing, and sanitation teams to ensure chemical titrations, cleaning logs, and hygiene standards meet regulatory requirements.
Team Training:
Conduct regular food safety, hygiene, and GMP onboarding and refresher trainings for on-site personnel.
Qualifications & Requirements Experience:
3 to 5+ years of practical, hands-on food safety or quality assurance experience in a fresh produce packinghouse, agricultural farm, or food manufacturing/processing facility.
Audit Familiarity:
Demonstrated experience participating in or managing third-party GFSI audits (PrimusGFS strongly preferred; SQF or BRC also valued).
Certifications:
Active HACCP certification (required or ability to obtain within 60 days). PCQI (Preventive Controls Qualified Individual) designation preferred.
Regulatory Knowledge:
Working understanding of
FDA FSMA
guidelines, GMPs, and standard state agricultural department regulations. Familiarity with USDA / Pennsylvania Certified Organic (PCO) handling standards is a strong plus.
Education:
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Agricultural Science, Biology, or a related field preferred; or an equivalent track record of practical, on-the-floor food safety leadership.
Physical & On-Site Requirements:
Ability to spend significant time on your feet walking production lines, packing areas, and growing environments; comfortable working directly on the floor alongside operations teams.
Language Skills:
