ExemptPosition OverviewWe are seeking an experienced Safety Lead to oversee workplace safety, compliance, accident and injury investigations, workers' compensation claims, DOT compliance, fleet safety, and security programs for a large distribution and warehouse operation.
The Safety Lead will work closely with Human Resources, Operations, Warehouse, Delivery, Sales, and Management to maintain a safe, compliant, and accident-free work environment. This position requires someone who is comfortable working both in an office environment and on the warehouse/facility floor.
Key ResponsibilitiesManage and investigate workplace injuries, accidents, general liability, automotive, and workers' compensation claims.
Follow up on claims through resolution and maintain accurate historical records.
Conduct facility inspections and identify potential safety hazards.
Recommend and follow up on corrective and preventative actions.
Manage the company's temporary alternative/light-duty work program and support timely employee return-to-work.
Develop and maintain monthly accident, injury, and safety reports.
Ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, and applicable federal, state, and local safety regulations.
Analyze safety trends, loss ratios, accident data, and claims history and report findings to management.
Conduct quarterly safety reviews with department managers and recommend improvements.
Maintain safety and training records within the HRIS system.
Track expiring DOT cards, forklift certifications, auto insurance documentation, and other compliance requirements.
Coordinate emergency preparedness activities, evacuation drills, and Emergency Action Plan updates.
Develop monthly safety talks in partnership with department supervisors and managers.
Order required safety equipment, materials, and supplies.
Stay current on OSHA, DOT, and other applicable safety regulations and requirements.
Attend relevant safety meetings and industry events.
Perform other safety, compliance, HR, and special projects as assigned.
Required Qualifications3-5+ years of experience in workplace safety, EHS, safety compliance, claims, risk management, or a related field.
Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and workplace safety practices.
Experience with accident/injury investigation and workers' compensation claims.
Experience with DOT compliance and driver safety strongly preferred.
Experience working with warehouse, distribution, transportation, fleet, or other industrial operations preferred.
Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
Strong investigative, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to communicate effectively with employees, supervisors, managers, vendors, and external partners.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Strong attention to detail and recordkeeping skills.
Ability to enforce safety policies while maintaining positive working relationships.
Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other Microsoft Office applications.
EducationBachelor's degree in Safety, Occupational Health, Human Resources, Business, or a related field preferred.
Equivalent combination of education and relevant safety/HR experience will be considered.
Preferred ExperienceEHS / Safety management in a distribution, warehouse, transportation, logistics, or fleet environment.
Workers' compensation and general liability claims.
DOT driver compliance and driver monitoring.
Forklift and warehouse safety.
Fleet safety programs.
Safety training and OSHA compliance.
Incident investigation and root-cause analysis.
Return-to-work/light-duty programs.
Experience with driver monitoring platforms such as Lytx.
Working ConditionsThis position primarily operates in an office and warehouse/facility environment. The role requires frequent walking throughout the facility and interaction with employees across multiple shifts.
Occasional exposure may include extreme temperatures, fumes, chemicals, machinery, loud noise, elevated areas, and outdoor weather conditions.
