Job Description
Position Summary The Safety Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining workplace safety programs within a metal fabrication manufacturing environment. This position works closely with production, welding, machining, fabrication, and maintenance teams to ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, company policies, and industry best practices. The Safety Coordinator will promote a culture of safety, reduce workplace incidents, and support continuous improvement initiatives throughout the facility. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Conduct routine safety inspections of fabrication, welding, machining, assembly, and warehouse areas to identify and eliminate workplace hazards. Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and environmental requirements. Investigate workplace accidents, injuries, near misses, and property damage incidents; prepare reports and implement corrective actions. Lead safety training programs, including new hire orientation, forklift safety, lockout/tagout (LOTO), PPE requirements, fall protection, confined space awareness, and hazard communication. Perform job hazard analyses (JHAs) and risk assessments for manufacturing processes and equipment. Monitor and enforce the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, welding helmets, gloves, hearing protection, and respirators. Maintain OSHA logs, incident records, safety training documentation, and compliance reports. Partner with supervisors and department managers to address safety concerns and implement preventative measures. Conduct regular audits of machine guarding, welding operations, press brakes, laser cutters, CNC equipment, forklifts, cranes, and material handling processes. Coordinate emergency response procedures, evacuation drills, and first aid preparedness. Assist with workers' compensation claims management and return-to-work programs. Track safety metrics and prepare monthly safety performance reports for leadership. Facilitate safety committee meetings and encourage employee participation in safety initiatives. Promote continuous improvement through safety observations, corrective actions, and employee engagement. Qualifications High School Diploma or GED required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Safety, Environmental Health, or related field preferred. Minimum of 2 years of safety experience in a manufacturing, metal fabrication, welding, or industrial environment preferred. Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and manufacturing safety standards. Experience conducting accident investigations, safety audits, and risk assessments. Ability to communicate effectively with employees at all levels of the organization. Strong organizational, documentation, and problem-solving skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. Preferred Qualifications OSHA Certification. First Aid, CPR, and AED Certification. Experience with welding, fabrication, machining, or heavy manufacturing operations. Knowledge of lockout/tagout (LOTO), machine guarding, respiratory protection, and powered industrial truck regulations. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred. Physical Requirements Ability to regularly walk the production floor and inspect work areas. Ability to stand, bend, climb stairs, and occasionally lift up to 30 pounds. Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to welding fumes, moving machinery, noise, and varying temperatures.
