Environmental Health and Safety Specialist John Galt Staffing - 3.6 Somerville, MA Job Details Contract $45 - $55 an hour 1 hour ago Qualifications Environmental compliance Manufacturing facility experience Construction site experience Bachelor's degree Industrial hygiene Full Job Description The Environmental Health & Safety Specialist will serve as the site lead for environmental, health and safety for our Somerville, Massachusetts facility. This hands-on role will support the Production and R D activities at the site. This role balances production line hazard controls with R D tests and scale-up, and includes full site regulatory compliance. What you'll do: Conduct risk assessments and hazard reviews for new equipment and processes. Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) investigations for all site injuries, equipment damage, chemical spills, and high potential near-misses. Manage site chemical inventories, Safety Data Sheet (SDS) databases. Oversee satellite accumulation areas, hazardous waste storage areas, and third-party waste disposal manifests. Execute site EHS inspections to ensure regulatory compliance. Manage a closed-loop, proactive EHS reporting (Good Catch) process for the site; supporting and driving the operational teams to close these prioritizing engineering controls. Support the operational teams with Test Readiness Reviews, Job Hazard Analysis, and other safe work planning tools. Develop and deliver site EHS onboarding, annual compliance training, and specific site safety courses. What we're looking for: Bachelors' in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field 3-5 years of EHS experience directly supporting a combined manufacturing or R D/lab environment Strong working knowledge of OSHA General Industry, EPA, RCRA regulations, and industrial hygiene principles Previous experience in a construction/industrial environment Ability to work in a high-volume, fast paced environment Ability to prioritize physical and engineering safeguards over administrative policies and standard PPE Hands-on experience partnering with engineers on equipment modifications, ergonomic redesigns, or machine safety upgrades Demonstrated strong propensity for hands-on work and attention to detail Ability to multitask, to manage shifting priorities and to follow through on projects with minimal supervision Strong organizational and communication skills Bonus points for:

Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs Perform activities such as stooping, climbing, typing, standing, or sitting for extended periods of time Dedication to safety to mitigate industrial hazards that may include heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead (Pb), high voltage, and cryogenics Willingness to travel or work required nights/weekends/on-call occasionally
Pay:
$45.00 - $55.00 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 per week
