Job Description The position holder will work closely with Operations, Fluidcare and Commercial leadership to ensure the continued adoption of the EHS culture of excellence and the effective execution of the EHS strategy. The position will provide management, professional knowledge, and technical expertise in administering and supporting regulatory compliance, policy and programmeme development, and training. Specific emphasis will be placed on: 1) developing and conducting programmes that continuously improve employee safety performance in the region to world-class standards; 2) guide corporate EHS-related objectives and support the execution of EHS-related initiatives; and, 3) develop and implement regional and local EHS management systems within the assigned area of responsibility. This position will develop effective implementation strategies, along with detailed implementation plans and timelines appropriate to the area of responsibility. Serves as the Leading EHS Technical Expert and advocate for continuous improvement of EHS performance across Quaker Houghton teams in conjunction with regional leaders and employees to promote a safe, productive, sustainable, and environmentally sound work culture through the application of improvement, best practices, and personal accountability. Develops clear regional EHS plans and aligns/implements annual and short-term action plans, projects, initiatives, goals, and objectives that maintain the balance between regulatory obligations and the Company's EHS objectives, business needs, and operational obligations, including annual operating plans, capital planning, human resources, and budgeting. In collaboration with key stakeholders, it drives a world-class employee safety culture by developing and/or implementing safety systems, policies and procedures, safety campaigns and programmes, improving safe employee behaviours, and eliminating, preventing, or controlling unsafe hazards/conditions. Conducts incident prevention strategies and evaluates, educates, and responds to predictive behaviours. Implements enterprise EHS software systems in the region required to support compliance activities and the tracking/reporting of EHS performance metrics and trends in the designated region. Monitor, interpret, and analyse the impacts of EHS laws, standards, or regulatory initiatives. It presents practical ideas in the interest of continuous improvement and best practices and directs the development of strategies, systems and tools in collaboration with key business stakeholders that support key strategic objectives in the region. Coordinates with management to ensure these standards are met. Develops regionally appropriate policies and programs related to occupational and industrial hygiene to support the management of incidents and potential exposure scenarios. Working closely with regional HR and Operations teams, manages pre-employment suitability for as-needed service assessments and return-to-work programmes for employees. Serve as a resource for EHS training requirements. Work with the Global EHS Director, Fluidcare and Commercial to implement the Corporate EHS online training system and/or associated training materials for initial EHS and refresher training of employees. Develop complementary training strategies and resources needed for the region not served by the enterprise system as needed for compliance or performance improvements. Work with management and operations personnel to ensure that training information is kept up-to-date and meets regulatory requirements. In collaboration with operational management, develop strategies and provide supervision and/or assist operational personnel in conducting various types of assessments (i.e., work safety analysis, PPE assessments, risk assessments, compliance assessments, etc.) Monitor resolution of findings as appropriate. Ensure that appropriate assessments are performed as part of the integration of Fluidcare sites and Commercial contracts (eg CMS). Supervise EHS consultants and contractors to perform EHS services within QH contracts and/or projects.
This may include:
occupational hygiene testing, ventilation system testing, sample collection, etc. Ensures that consultants follow regulatory and company requirements. Analyses and interprets data and reports and makes recommendations. Ensure compliance with all regulations, procedures, and operational standards applicable to quality, occupational health and environmental management systems, as well as the Quaker Houghton Lifesaving Rules in order to minimize risks in these areas and create opportunities for continuous improvement. A minimum of 5 years' experience in the environmental, health and safety discipline with a strong focus on safety is required. The candidate must hold a bachelor's degree or equivalent experience with preference given to: Industrial Hygiene, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, Chemistry, or an appropriate science-related field.
Specific knowledge and expertise in:
General regulatory knowledge in relevant environmental, health, and safety for the EPA, OSHA, and applicable state agencies, Familiar with
ISO14001/45001
management systems and certification a plus.
