Assists in overseeing a district, division or marine safety program in accordance with the Occupational Safety Division Manual or Rules and Regulations Governing Ferry Operations. Works to create an active interest in accident prevention and the safety program. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.
Essential Duties:
Safety Officer I or IIAssists in coordinating/processing permits and licenses with applicable resource and regulatory agencies; assists inpreparing and maintaining current Tier Two and Workplace Chemical Lists.

Coordinates safety meetings; usually involves planning, conducting, coordinating schedules and providing literature andaudio-visual materialInspects equipment and work areas. Plans, schedules and monitors programs or activities that promote employee safety and accident preventionSpill prevention, containment and counter measures.

Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

Administers the new employee driver's orientation program and the vehicle safety program.

Assists or serves as the Substance Control Officer.

Coordinates and schedules employee safety awards and the annual Safety Awards Banquet/Truck Roadeo.

Monitors district's underground fuel storage tanks for compliance and assists with disposal of hazardous materialwastes.

Inspects equipment and work areas.
