Industrial Team Manager About Gene Ptacek & Son Fire Equipment Gene Ptacek & Son Fire Equipment is a family-owned and operated leader in fire protection services, proudly serving Northeast Ohio since 1975. We provide inspection, testing, and maintenance for fire extinguishers, suppression systems, and alarms to keep our customers' facilities safe and compliant. We're looking for a reliable and detail-oriented Industrial Team - Portable Technician to join our Portables Department. This is a hands-on role working in heavy industrial environments, performing inspection, service, and maintenance on portable fire extinguishers. What You'll Do Install portable fire extinguishers in customer facilities according to NFPA 10 standards and applicable codes. Conduct regular inspections (monthly, annual, or as required) to verify proper operation, pressure, labeling, and placement. Test extinguishers for discharge time, range, and flow rate to ensure compliance. Perform maintenance such as recharging, cleaning, and part replacement (valves, hoses, nozzles, seals, etc.). Educate customers on proper use, including demonstrating the PASS method (Pull, Aim, Squeeze, Sweep). Accurately record all inspection and service activities and maintain up-to-date documentation. Report deficiencies or safety concerns to supervisors and recommend corrective actions. Adhere to all state and local fire safety regulations and maintain required permits or certifications. Perform additional duties as assigned.
What We're Looking For Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of NFPA 10 and fire extinguisher servicing practices. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Excellent customer service and problem-solving skills. Organized with strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy. Reliable, with consistent attendance and a professional attitude. Basic computer proficiency.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Valid driver's license with a clean driving record. Current State Fire Marshal Portable License preferred, or willingness to obtain within required timeframe. Physical Requirements Ability to lift, carry, and move up to 70 lbs. Work in, on, around, over, and under equipment and machinery. Comfortable working from ladders, lifts, and scaffolding. Ability to tolerate dust, fumes, smoke, and varying temperatures. Work in confined spaces and occasionally in hazardous environments. Must wear and work in required PPE (personal protective equipment).
