This position plays an important role in keeping the rental fleet safe, reliable, and ready for customers. The Mobile Lube Technician will travel to equipment locations, complete scheduled services, identify developing mechanical problems, maintain accurate service records, and communicate equipment concerns to the Service Department. The ideal candidate is dependable, safety-minded, mechanically inclined, organized, and comfortable working independently in field environments. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Perform scheduled preventive maintenance and lubrication services on heavy equipment and fleet vehicles. Travel to customer job sites, company yards, and equipment locations using a company-provided service/lube truck. Change engine oil, hydraulic oil, transmission fluids, gear oils, coolant, fuel filters, oil filters, hydraulic filters, air filters, and other service components as required. Lubricate grease points according to manufacturer specifications and company maintenance schedules. Check and properly maintain fluid levels. Inspect belts, hoses, batteries, electrical connections, tires, tracks, undercarriages, cutting edges, attachments, and other wear components. Perform visual inspections for leaks, cracks, loose or damaged components, abnormal wear, and other potential mechanical or safety concerns. Identify equipment requiring additional repairs and promptly communicate findings to the Service Manager. Perform minor repairs and adjustments when within the technician's ability and authorization. Reset service indicators and document hour-meter and mileage readings. Maintain accurate service records for each piece of equipment. Complete work orders, inspection forms, parts usage, fluid quantities, and service documentation accurately and on time. Follow manufacturer-recommended maintenance intervals and company preventive-maintenance procedures. Maintain proper inventory of oils, filters, fluids, grease, parts, and supplies on the mobile service truck. Keep the service/lube truck clean, organized, stocked, and ready for daily operations. Properly collect, contain, transport, and dispose of used oil, filters, coolant, and other waste materials in accordance with company procedures and applicable regulations. Prevent spills and immediately follow company procedures for any spill or environmental incident. Maintain tools and equipment in safe working condition. Communicate professionally with customers, operators, dispatchers, drivers, mechanics, and other employees. Assist Service Department personnel with equipment inspections and repairs as needed. Follow all company safety policies and applicable DOT, OSHA, environmental, and job-site requirements. Perform other equipment maintenance duties as assigned. Equipment Serviced The Mobile Lube Technician may service a variety of equipment, including: Excavators Dozers Wheel loaders Skid steers and compact track loaders Backhoes Motor graders Rollers and compaction equipment Telehandlers and forklifts Aerial equipment Generators and light towers Water trucks Dump trucks Heavy-haul tractors and trailers Service trucks and company vehicles Attachments and other rental equipment Required Qualifications Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record. Ability to safely operate a mobile service/lube truck. Basic mechanical knowledge of diesel-powered construction and heavy equipment. Understanding of oils, lubricants, filters, coolants, hydraulic fluids, and other equipment service products. Ability to identify common fluid leaks and signs of mechanical wear or equipment damage. Ability to use hand tools, power tools, grease equipment, pumps, and other service equipment safely. Ability to read equipment service information and follow manufacturer maintenance procedures. Ability to accurately record equipment hours, mileage, services performed, fluids used, and parts installed. Ability to work independently and manage multiple service assignments throughout the day. Ability to communicate effectively with customers, operators, mechanics, and management. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and job-site conditions. Preferred Qualifications Previous experience as a lube technician, field service technician, diesel technician, heavy-equipment mechanic, or similar position. Experience servicing construction or rental equipment. Familiarity with Caterpillar, John Deere, Komatsu, CASE, Bobcat, Kubota, JLG, Genie, or similar heavy-equipment manufacturers. CDL preferred when required for the assigned service vehicle. OSHA and/or job-site safety training preferred. Experience operating construction equipment is a plus. Experience with electronic fleet maintenance or work-order systems is a plus. Physical Requirements This position requires the employee to regularly: Lift and carry up to 50-75 pounds . Climb on and off heavy equipment and service vehicles. Bend, kneel, squat, crawl, reach, and work underneath equipment. Work from ladders, steps, and equipment access platforms. Handle hoses, filters, tools, fluid containers, and service equipment. Work around grease, oil, diesel fuel, dirt, dust, mud, and other materials commonly found around heavy equipment. Work outdoors in hot, cold, wet, dusty, and other changing conditions. Wear required personal protective equipment. Safety Responsibilities Safety is a primary responsibility of this position. The Mobile Lube Technician is expected to: Conduct work in a manner that protects employees, customers, the public, property, and equipment. Follow lockout/tagout and equipment-isolation procedures when applicable. Use appropriate PPE for each task. Properly secure equipment before beginning service. Never work beneath raised equipment or attachments unless they are properly supported and secured. Maintain safe housekeeping around the work area. Follow spill-prevention and environmental procedures. Immediately report unsafe equipment, job-site conditions, accidents, injuries, spills, and near misses. Stop work when a condition presents an immediate safety hazard. Work Schedule This is a field-based position. Work schedules may vary depending on customer needs and equipment locations. Early mornings, overtime, weekends, and occasional after-hours service may be required. The technician should be prepared to travel between multiple job sites and equipment locations during a normal workday.
