Summary The Mechanic is responsible for keeping Living Concepts' vehicles, landscape equipment, and small engines safe, reliable, and ready for daily operations. This position performs preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and general upkeep on company equipment and vehicles. The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, dependable, and capable of working on a wide variety of equipment. This position requires experience with small engines and light automotive repair, along with the general mechanical and handyman skills necessary to solve problems as they arise. The Mechanic reports directly to the Fleet and Facilities Manager. Essential Functions Duties include but are not limited to: Performing preventative maintenance and repairs on commercial landscape equipment, including mowers, blowers, trimmers, chainsaws, edgers, and other small-engine equipment. Diagnosing and repairing gasoline and diesel small engines and related mechanical systems. Performing light automotive maintenance and repairs on company trucks and vehicles, including oil changes, brakes, batteries, belts, hoses, filters, lights, and other routine repairs. Inspecting vehicles, trailers, and equipment to identify maintenance needs and safety concerns before failures occur. Performing basic repairs and maintenance on trailers, including lighting, wiring, tires, bearings, hitches, and related components. Troubleshooting basic electrical and mechanical problems on vehicles and equipment. Sharpening blades and maintaining cutting equipment. Maintaining preventative maintenance schedules and communicating upcoming service needs to the Fleet and Facilities Manager. Keeping accurate records of maintenance, repairs, parts, and equipment condition. Maintaining an organized, clean, and safe shop and work area. Maintaining appropriate inventories of commonly used parts, fluids, filters, and shop supplies. Assisting with the pickup, delivery, and transport of vehicles, equipment, and parts as needed. Coordinating with outside repair vendors when repairs cannot or should not be completed in-house. Performing general facility maintenance and repairs as assigned, including basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical, fabrication, assembly, and other handyman-type work. Assisting the Fleet and Facilities Manager with equipment setup, modifications, installations, and other projects. Responding to equipment breakdowns and helping return equipment to service quickly and safely. Other Position Requirements Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability. Experience maintaining and repairing small engines and power equipment. Experience with light-duty automotive maintenance and repair. General knowledge of electrical, hydraulic, fuel, and mechanical systems. Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, jacks, lifts, and other shop equipment. Ability to identify when a repair can be completed in-house and when specialized outside service is appropriate. Ability to work independently, prioritize repairs, and manage multiple maintenance needs. Strong attention to detail and commitment to safe work practices. Ability to communicate effectively with managers, supervisors, and field employees. Self-motivated, dependable, resourceful, and willing to take on a wide variety of tasks. Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record required. Work Environment This position works primarily in a shop and outdoor yard environment and may occasionally perform repairs in the field. The employee will regularly work around vehicles, machinery, fuels, oils, batteries, power tools, and operating equipment. Work may occasionally be performed outdoors in hot, cold, wet, dusty, or otherwise changing weather conditions. Physical Demands This position requires frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, reaching, climbing, and working in and around vehicles and equipment. The employee must be able to regularly lift and carry up to 50 pounds and occasionally handle heavier objects with appropriate assistance or equipment. The position requires sufficient manual dexterity and mobility to safely operate tools and perform mechanical repairs. Position Type and Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time position. Regular work hours are generally Monday through Friday. Occasional extended hours may be required to address equipment breakdowns or operational needs. Travel Regular local travel may be required to obtain parts, move vehicles or equipment, or perform repairs at company or customer locations. No regular overnight travel is expected. Required Education and Experience High school diploma or equivalent required. Previous professional experience in small-engine, automotive, equipment, or similar mechanical repair is required. Formal technical or automotive training is preferred but not required for candidates with sufficient hands-on experience. Experience maintaining commercial landscape equipment is preferred.
