Job Description

MV Transportation seeks a Mechanic to perform inspections, diagnostics, and repairs on a fleet of transit vehicles supporting safe, reliable community transportation. This role handles preventive maintenance, troubleshoots mechanical, electrical, brake, and HVAC issues, and completes DOT-compliant inspections and documentation. Working in a safety-focused, team-oriented shop, the Mechanic helps ensure vehicles are road-ready, responds to breakdowns, and supports continuous improvement in fleet reliability and service quality for passengers. Responsibilities Perform scheduled preventive maintenance and safety inspections on transit vehicles Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, brake, and HVAC issues Conduct DOT-compliant inspections and maintain accurate maintenance records Use diagnostic software, tools, and equipment safely and effectively Respond to road calls and breakdowns to restore vehicles to service Follow all shop, safety, and environmental procedures and regulations Collaborate with supervisors and teammates to prioritize repairs and minimize downtime Support continuous improvement in fleet reliability and maintenance practices Required Skills Diesel and gasoline engine repair Hydraulic and air brake systems Vehicle electrical diagnostics Preventive maintenance inspections (PMIs) Use of diagnostic scan tools HVAC systems repair for buses/vehicles Reading technical manuals and schematics Safety and OSHA compliance procedures Maintenance documentation and recordkeeping Use of shop tools, lifts, and equipment
