Job Description
An established waste and recycling company is seeking a dependable Diesel Mechanic / Fleet Maintenance Technician to keep its trucks and equipment safe, reliable, and ready for daily operations. This hands-on position supports residential, commercial, and dumpster collection services. If you enjoy troubleshooting, solving mechanical problems, and taking pride in your work, this could be a great opportunity. Responsibilities Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, diagnostics, and repairs on diesel trucks and related equipment. Troubleshoot engine, transmission, brake, steering, suspension, electrical, and hydraulic issues. Inspect and repair collection equipment, including lifting mechanisms, compactors, and associated components. Address defects reported by drivers and communicate repair needs with the operations team. Complete scheduled maintenance and repairs efficiently to reduce downtime. Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, labor, and parts used. Identify needed parts and coordinate with management on repair priorities. Follow safe work practices and maintain an organized shop. Qualifications Experience repairing diesel trucks, heavy equipment, or similar commercial vehicles. Working knowledge of hydraulic, electrical, and air brake systems. Ability to use diagnostic equipment and read service manuals, wiring diagrams, and schematics. Strong troubleshooting skills and attention to detail. Ability to work independently and communicate effectively with drivers and management. Valid driver's license. Preferred Experience Waste collection truck or vocational truck maintenance. Experience with roll-off systems, refuse bodies, or compaction equipment. Welding and fabrication skills. CDL or willingness to obtain one. Diesel technology training or relevant certifications. Work Environment This position involves hands-on shop and equipment maintenance, including standing, bending, climbing, and handling tools and parts. Some work may take place outdoors.
