Position Summary The college is seeking a team-oriented professional who, as a part of Facilities and Maintenance. The Maintenance Technician will perform a wide variety of building, grounds, custodial, and maintenance activities for the college and student resident halls. The position will include providing specific building maintenance as assigned, assisting with basic building interior and exterior improvement activities, assisting with building/campus activity set up, identifying specific building custodial/maintenance needs, processing work orders, establishing usage schedule, completing work list priorities, and initiating preventive maintenance. The Director of Maintenance and Facilities may assign other duties for the successful operation of the campus. Qualifications Qualifications for this position will include experience related to the scope of work. The ideal candidate will possess excellent maintenance skills and be able to interact with staff, students, and the public in a professional manner. Valid driver's license and ability to drive is required. The Maintenance Technician must engage in a collaborative work ethic and a philosophy of higher education that is compatible with the mission of the ICC vision and mission statements. Position Information The Maintenance Technician is a full-time, 12-month position hourly position. Primary Responsibilities 1.Provide specific building and grounds maintenance tasks as assigned. 2.Assist with basic building interior and exterior improvement projects. 3.Assist with building/campus activity set up for special events and day-to-day operations. 4.Provide services for the campus buildings as assigned. 5.Identify specific building maintenance needs, process work orders, establish usage schedule, complete work list priorities, and initiate preventive maintenance. 6.Other responsibilities necessary to the successful operation of the campus. 7.Develop and implement short-and long-term maintenance schedules. 8.Train and mentor part-time and student staff as necessary. 9.Work collaboratively with all faculty, staff, and external agencies such as contractors and repair services. 10.Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Maintenance and Facilities. Qualifications 1.Demonstrated hands-on familiarity with maintenance functions and equipment. 2.Must display a self-starting, energetic work ethic and self-starting attitude. 3.Demonstrated understanding quality of campus work environment. 4.Ability to work with and without supervision. 5.Time management, computer and organizational skills. 6.Experience and/or education related to the scope of work and essential job functions. 7.Strong knowledge of electrical, HVAC, plumbing, carpentry and mechanical is preferred. 8.Ability to effectively communicate with students, staff, and community. 9. Ability to work well with others and accept supervision. 10.Ability to provide excellent customer service. 11.High level of energy to fulfill a variety of tasks. 12. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and climb ladder. 13. Ability to drive and possession of a valid driver's license. 14.An educational philosophy in alignment with a small, rural comprehensive community college.
Compensation:

Independence Community College Independence Community College (ICC) is a two-year educational institution accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. It was established in 1925 as grades 13 and 14 of the Independence public school system. In 1967, Independence Community College legally separated from the school district. Construction of the new community college on a 68 acre campus, formerly the Independence Country Club, began in 1969. Classes at the new site began in September 1970. ICC campus is now home to the Academic Building, Fine Arts Building, Student Union, Cessna Learning Center, Field House, Administration Building, William Inge Center for the Arts , fitness center, athletic practice fields, disc golf course, 96-bed multi-structure living complex, and a 200 bed residence hall . By renovating a donated building, in 2010, we expanded our college to include ICC West (2615 West Main Street). This campus is located on the west side of Independence and is home to our technical programs: Allied Health, Cosmetology, and GED/ABE. Additional renovations were completed in 2012 to accomodate our newest program, Veterinary Technology. This state-of-the-art facility includes animal wards, a classroom, lab, surgery, pharmacy, prep room, small animal treatment, food prep, grooming, and radiology. ICC also maintains presence downtown through the ICC Foundation office and by partnering with the Independence Business Resource Center. Currently, our educational and support programming includes 35 programs of study for Associates of Arts and/or Science degrees , 11 programs of study for Certificate completion , Student Support Services , Upward Bound , men's and women's athletic programs, and a variety of campus organizations and activities .
