TxDOT's Austin District is looking for a Roadway Maintenance Tech (Trans Maintenance Tech) I, II, or III , based out of Lincoln (Giddings) . This position will perform routine work related to transportation activities such as construction inspection, routine and contract maintenance inspection, bridge inspection and record keeping, roadway maintenance and repair, light and heavy equipment operation, preventive and minor maintenance on equipment, traffic control, and assisting the public during emergency situations. Recruitment Bonus Available! You may qualify for a one-time recruitment bonus up to $5000 if you have a Class "A" CDL License (preferably with no transmission restrictions) at time of hire. You must maintain 12-months of continuous employment with TxDOT and meet all other conditions. Work requires contact with private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.
Essential Duties:
The essential duties of a Roadway Maintenance Tech I, II and III include: Assists with traffic control; places and gathers cones, warning signs and barricades; flags traffic. Determines placement of traffic control devices and installs/moves devices. Maintains highways and rights-of-way; performs roadway repairs; erects and repairs guard rails, highway markers and signs; hauls materials and equipment to job sites. Move/picks up litter and roadway debris. Operates light equipment such as a front-end loader-one and a quarter cubic yard or less, pneumatic roller, rotary broom, spreader box, backhoe, street sweeper, and mower. Operates heavy equipment such as a front-end loader-one and a half cubic yards or more, tractor-trailer haul truck, large dragline, shovel, paint striper, and dump truck. Operates complex heavy equipment such as a motor grader, large excavator, heavy bulldozer, crane, herbicide truck, heavy asphalt paving machine, self-propelled asphalt distributor, and profiling/milling machine. Sands or cleans bridges and roads, posts warning signs, helps the public and performs other work as directed during emergency situations such as floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, snowstorms, accidents, and hazardous material spills. Assists with inspecting maintenance contract construction methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build and maintain roadways, bridges, traffic signals and related highway structures in accordance with plans and specifications. Performs other job responsibilities as assigned. This position requires driving a state vehicle. Additional duties for a Roadway Maintenance Tech II and III include: Assists in identifying, repairing, and installing signs, delineators, mailbox supports and posts; performs basic welding as needed; as required uses/moves equipment/tools, materials and products related to these activities. Performs preventive maintenance inspections (PMI), routine servicing and minor repairs on equipment and completes various required reports including timekeeping, equipment forms, inventory, accident forms and PMI. Assists in providing support to local law enforcement officials at accident sites; assists stranded motorists as required. Roadway Accidents/Inclement Weather/Natural Disasters-Must be able to respond 24/7 when notified. Assists in sanding or cleaning bridges and roads, posting warning signs, helping the public and performing other work as directed during emergency situations such as floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, snowstorms, accidents, and hazardous material spills. Learns to operate light equipment such as a front-end loader-one and a quarter cubic yard or less, pneumatic roller, rotary broom, spreader box, backhoe, street sweeper and mower. Maintains highways and rights-of-way; performs roadway repairs; erects and repairs guard rails, highway markers and signs; hauls materials and equipment to job sites. Mows rights-of-way and picnic and rest areas; performs plant and landscape maintenance including trimming trees and brush. Inspects construction and routine contract maintenance methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build and maintain roadways, bridges, traffic signals and related highway structures in accordance with plans and specifications. Maintains highways and rights-of-way; performs skilled roadway repairs; erects and repairs guard rails, highway markers and signs; hauls materials and equipment to job sites. Additional duties for a Roadway Maintenance Tech III include: Maintains highways and rights-of-way; performs highly skilled roadway repairs; erects and repairs guard rails, highway markers and signs; hauls materials and equipment to job sites. Operates complex heavy equipment such as a motor grader, large gradall, heavy bulldozer, crane, herbicide truck, heavy asphalt paving machine, self-propelled asphalt distributor and profiling/milling machine.

Preferred Qualifications:
Commercial Driver's License preferably with no transmission restrictions. Roadway Maintenance Tech II and III levels require a CDL License at time of hire.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
