The Specialist, Facilities Custodial Floor Maintenance (Night Shift), under immediate supervision of the Supervisor 2, is an important position to the college because all duties performed are visible and contribute greatly to the environment and overall appeal at each campus and in each building. This position knows fundamental concepts of floor maintenance and custodial services to ensure a safe, clean, and functional environment for all campuses and sites operated by Salt Lake Community College (SLCC). This position requires a broad range of work, sometimes complex and non-routine, in a variety of environments. This position uses discretion in identifying and resolving complex problems and assignments and determines when problems should be escalated to a higher level. This position will ensure that all SLCC, Facilities and Custodial required training is completed and maintained to provide the consistent, reliable, and timely facilities support to the College by the Custodial Services department. This position has a regular schedule of 10:00pm to 6:30am but requires flexibility and must be available to work on call for snow removal and other building clean up emergencies, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of Floor Maintenance chemicals, practices and operations. Knowledge of Custodial practices and operations. Ability to be self-motivated Ability to work independently or with a team. Ability to complete time sensitive work. Ability to learn, teach and train Communication skills. Knowledge of and ability to adhere to the safety requirements of OSHA and ISSA Ability to read and understand SDS label/sheet. Knowledge of and ability to adhere to policies and procedures. Organizational skills with attention to detail Problem-solving skills Ability to working effectively under pressure, with multiple deadlines and changing priorities. Computer and data entry skills. Basic MS Office, particularly Excel, Word, Outlook and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) to track work orders. Ability to safely move 75 lbs. and position oneself to perform Floor Maintenance duties on a regular basis. Basic knowledge of equipment maintenance and tool usage. Ability to operate different types of floor maintenance, custodial and moving equipment. Must be willing to respond to campus emergencies during off-hours as necessary. Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, ability, culture, ethnic background, to maintain good working relationships across the College. Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic background of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities and special needs.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
Extract and detail carpets & upholstery utilizing proper chemicals and cleaning equipment at all SLCC locations. Strip and resurface hard floors utilizing proper chemicals and cleaning equipment at all SLCC locations. Respond to emergency calls and clean up after floods and spills by utilizing flood clean-up equipment at all SLCC locations. Complete and maintain all SLCC, Facilities custodial, and floor maintenance required training. Complete Floor Maintenance Special projects to create a positive working environment Monitor, post time on, and close work orders in the Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (Sprocket) Snow removal: snow and ice removal around entranceways and steps of buildings; maintain all sidewalks at entranceways so that snow and/or ice at said locations will not cause closing of the College.
Non-Essential Responsibilities:
Assist with custodial duties as needed. Other duties as assigned. Must have one of the following combinations of education and experience: High School Diploma and 3 years of related full-time experience. Associate Degree (60 credit hours completed) and 1 year of related full-time experience. Any combination of the above using substitutions.
Note:
Substitutions for education/experience on a 1:1 basis. Part-time direct work experience may be substituted for full-time work experience, on a pro-rated basis. Must have a valid UT Driver License.
