Job Description

SUMMARY:
Repairs and maintains machinery and mechanical equipment such as engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machines and equipment to maintain and support production demands.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Observe mechanical devices in operation and listen to their sounds to locate potential mechanical failures. Dismantle machines to gain access to and remove defective parts. Examine form and texture of machined parts to detect imperfections. Inspect used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements. Adjust functional parts of devices and control instruments. Repair or replace worn or defective parts including pumps, piping, hoses, valves and cylinders. Install special functional and structural parts in devices. Lubricate and clean parts. Assemble machines following proper sequence using schematics and start machines to test their performance. Setup and operate lathes, drill presses, grinders, and other metalworking tools to make and repair parts. Inform supervisor of needed parts and low inventory of parts. Repair electrical equipment and performs wiring of outlets. Perform arc, plasma cutting, torching, and wire welding. Perform routine and preventive maintenance on machines and equipment. Operate and basic repair forklifts. Maintain cleanliness of work area. May supervise others in absence of supervisor. Must be willing to contribute to team activities which would include process and safety improvement.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EXPERIENCE
Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year College or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, part manuals, SDSs, and alphanumeric abbreviations. Ability to use and interpret hand signals while operating forklift. Ability to communicate effectively with suppliers and other employees in person and on the phone. Work individually and as a team with other maintenance staff to complete projects.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Basic math. Ability to read and interpret pneumatic, electrical and hydraulic prints and assembly schematics of various machines. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and troubleshoot situations. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to visualize the inner workings of a machine. OTHER SKILLS and
ABILITIES
Ability to operate and repair all machines in manufacturing including CNC machines, milling machines, steel cutting band saws, drill presses, grinders, sawzalls, circular saws, hammer drills, solder guns, torches, heat treat machines, and arc and wire welding equipment. Use various hand tools including squares, levels, Allen wrenches, screwdrivers, socket wrenches, hammers, impact wrenches, vise grips, multimeters, tape measures, air gauges, and shovels. Maintain and repairs plumbing, heating/ventilation and water systems within the plant (basic). Perform carpentry work as needed (finishing, framing, paneling and painting). Use a computer as needed.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and may lift up to 100 pounds with assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock (150 - 480 volts) and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and extreme heat.
