Job Description

Knife River is seeking a Diesel Technician to maintain and repair diesel trucks and heavy equipment supporting construction projects. You'll diagnose engine, hydraulic, and electrical issues, perform preventative maintenance, and complete field and shop repairs with a strong emphasis on safety and quality. Responsibilities Inspect, diagnose, and repair diesel trucks and heavy construction equipment used on projects and in the yard Perform routine preventative maintenance including oil changes, filter replacement, and fluid checks Troubleshoot hydraulic, electrical, braking, and engine systems using diagnostic tools and manuals Document work performed, parts used, and time spent in maintenance software or work orders Ensure all repairs meet company safety, quality, and
DOT/OSHA
standards Collaborate with operators and supervisors to prioritize repairs and minimize equipment downtime Maintain a clean, safe, and organized shop and work area Assist with emergency field repairs and on-site service calls as needed Required Skills Diesel engine diagnostics and repair Hydraulic system troubleshooting and repair Heavy equipment maintenance Electrical system diagnostics (12/24 V) Use of diagnostic software and scan tools Brake and suspension repair Welding and basic fabrication Reading technical manuals and schematics Preventative maintenance scheduling Safety and
