JOB SUMMARY

The Motor Vehicle Mechanic will perform repair work and maintenance for trucks, and other motor vehicles or equipment in the company's fleet. Maintains the yard/grounds where vehicles are parked and moved.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES

Maintains vehicles, which may include a company's fleet of trucks, heavy equipment, tractor/trailers, and other motor vehicles. Performs routine and preventive maintenance including oil changes and tune-ups. Performs tests on specific parts and systems to ensure proper function. Identifies mechanical problems either visually or with computer diagnostic equipment. Examines critical parts and systems using a standard checklist. Repairs or replaces malfunctioning parts and systems such as brake pads, belts, water pumps, transmissions, and other mechanical parts. Plans and establishes timetable to complete repairs and maintenance. May visit job sites to inspect vehicles. Test drives vehicle to confirm safe and proper operation. Maintains the yard where vehicles are parked and moved. Performs other related duties as assigned.

COMPETENCIES NEEDED

Extensive knowledge of all aspects of vehicle repair. Excellent mechanical repair skills. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to read service and repair manuals. Proficient with computer diagnostic equipment and software preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS REQUIRED

High school diploma or equivalent required. Vocational/technical school program or apprenticeship in auto repair or related field preferred. 3 - 5 years of motor vehicle & equipment maintenance and repair required. Valid state of Georgia driver's license with a good driving record required. Commercial driver's license preferred and may be required.

WORK REQUIREMENTS WORK SCHEDULE

This is a full-time position. The typical schedule is Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. However, the hours in a day may run longer to complete a project. Weekend work may also be required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand, talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, taste and smell. The employee must frequently lift or move up to 50 lbs. Anything weighing more than 50 lbs. requires a two-person lift and should not be attempted alone. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts, and is frequently exposed to wet or humid conditions and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risks of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment us usually loud.

TRAVEL:

Local travel to various work or jobsites is required.

Pay:

$35.00 - $45.00 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 - 45.0 per week
