Job Description

We are seeking a highly experienced Heavy Equipment Mechanic to diagnose, repair, service, and maintain a fleet of construction equipment at a long-term job site in Mocksville, North Carolina. This is not an entry-level mechanic position. The successful applicant must be a high-level technician who can independently troubleshoot complex mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and equipment performance issues. Applicants should be able to accurately identify the cause of a problem, complete repairs efficiently, and help prevent unnecessary equipment downtime. The position will generally work between 45 and 50 hours per week at one local job location. Minimum Requirements Extensive experience diagnosing and repairing heavy construction equipment Must be able to independently troubleshoot equipment at a high technical level Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, drivetrains, and equipment controls Ability to use diagnostic software, service manuals, electrical diagrams, and testing equipment Valid driver's license required Must be authorized to work in the United States Must pass pre-employment and random drug testing Must have personal tools appropriate for an experienced heavy equipment mechanic Must be safety-minded, dependable, and able to work with limited supervision Must be able to lift, carry, climb, bend, kneel, and work around heavy equipment in outdoor conditions Positive and verifiable work references required Preferred Experience Experience servicing and repairing equipment such as: Excavators Bulldozers Skid steers and compact track loaders Off-road trucks Tractors Loaders Compaction equipment Utility vehicles Heavy-duty trucks and trailers Small engines and construction tools Experience with Caterpillar, John Deere, Komatsu, Kubota, Bobcat, Takeuchi, or similar construction equipment manufacturers is preferred. Primary Responsibilities Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and equipment-control problems Determine the root cause of equipment failures instead of replacing parts unnecessarily Perform advanced troubleshooting using diagnostic tools and software Repair diesel engines, cooling systems, fuel systems, and exhaust systems Diagnose and repair hydraulic pumps, cylinders, valves, hoses, and related components Diagnose electrical issues involving batteries, starters, alternators, wiring, sensors, modules, and control systems Repair drivetrain, transmission, axle, brake, and steering components Complete preventive maintenance and scheduled equipment services Perform oil, filter, fluid, belt, hose, and wear-component replacements Inspect equipment and identify potential failures before they result in downtime Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns at the job site Determine whether equipment can be safely repaired in the field or requires additional shop support Maintain accurate service, repair, inspection, and parts records Order or identify required parts and communicate repair needs to management Track recurring equipment problems and recommend permanent corrective actions Perform welding and minor fabrication when qualified Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area Ensure equipment is returned to service in a safe and reliable operating condition Communicate repair status and estimated equipment downtime to supervisors Assist with maintaining tools, service equipment, fluids, filters, and commonly used repair parts Follow all company, customer, and job-site safety requirements Perform other equipment maintenance and repair duties as assigned Ideal Applicant The ideal applicant is an experienced field mechanic who takes pride in properly diagnosing problems, completing dependable repairs, and keeping equipment operating. We are looking for someone who: Can work independently without requiring constant direction Understands the difference between diagnosing a problem and simply changing parts Communicates clearly with operators and supervisors Responds professionally when equipment breaks down Maintains a sense of urgency while completing repairs safely Keeps tools, parts, and work areas organized Is dependable and reports to work consistently Takes ownership of repairs and follows problems through to completion Can prioritize multiple repairs based on safety and operational needs Work Schedule This is a full-time position averaging approximately 45-50 hours per week. The normal schedule will be based on project operating hours and equipment-maintenance requirements. Some early mornings, extended workdays, or occasional weekend work may be required depending on equipment breakdowns and project needs. This position is based at one local job site in Mocksville, North Carolina. Regular overnight travel is not expected. Compensation Starting pay is $35.00 per hour , with the potential for higher compensation based on experience, diagnostic ability, certifications, and overall qualifications. Overtime will be paid in accordance with applicable wage and hour laws.
