Purpose:
Performs repair and installation of equipment and components consisting of electrical and mechanical assemblies which adjust, regulate and confine the heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration needs within the building in accordance with schematics, plans, operation manuals and manufacturer's specifications.
Responsibilities:
Repairs and inspects the operations of the refrigeration equipment for preserving food, making ice and cooling water. Ability to work within limits and standards set by blueprints and specifications. Ability to resolve routine problems and refer difficult or unusual problems to the Assistant Director. Capable of working under emergency conditions. Ability to read and understand forms and relationships when working from blueprints or specifications. Ability to differentiate wire and coding colors. Ability to understand and comply with oral and written instructions. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics. Analytical skills necessary to perform electrical and mechanical testing on a variety of equipment. Ability to perform arithmetic calculations in troubleshooting, testing and installing electrical wiring and to estimate material sizes. Completes work tickets with the appropriate information. Examines, tests, repairs or replaces such elements of systems as described in the corrective and preventive maintenance procedures. Oversees and directs laborers when assigned to assist. Documents work functions for regulatory agencies as designated by Department policy. Updates plans and drawings as required to reflect work carried out. Equipped to evaluate malfunctioning conditions against verifiable or judgmental criteria as shown in blueprints and installation instructions. Ability to make comparisons and discriminations when cutting, fitting, disassembling and assembling components, connections or equipment. Ability to work with hand tools, making connections and assembling components. Interpersonal skills necessary to communicate and cooperate with various levels of Hospital personnel, physicians and patients to complete work in occupied areas in a tactful and courteous manner. Cleans and checks operation of the water treatment equipment. Assists other crafts in completing their duties Maintains the necessary personal tools to carry out craft duties and keeps tools in a safe and reliable condition. Inspects the motor, motor starter and connections for proper operation. Orders necessary parts and material through established procedures. Demonstrates safe work habits. Removes and installs new and existing equipment as directed. Maintains, troubleshoots and makes repairs to the HVAC systems and components to include chillers, compressors, cooling towers, electrical and pneumatic controls, motors, pumps, ducts, mixing boxes, valves and lines. Responsible for following the mandatory reporting procedures for any incident or serious event that did affect or potentially could have affected the clinical care of any patient.
