Water Resources Plant Mechanic - Water Resources Department The City of Greensboro Water Resources Department is seeking a skilled and dependable Plant Mechanic to help keep critical water and wastewater facilities operating safely and reliably. In this hands-on role, you'll install, repair, inspect, and maintain essential mechanical equipment while troubleshooting problems and helping ensure equipment performs at its best. About the

The Water Resources Department provides essential water and wastewater services that protect public health, support the community, and keep Greensboro's infrastructure running. Our teams maintain complex treatment facilities, pumping systems, and other critical equipment that residents and businesses rely on every day.

Compensation and Benefits:
Hiring Salary Range :

$50,376.00 - $57,573.00

Full Salary Range :

$43,755.00 - $78,299.00 Annually

Work With Complex Equipment:

Maintain pumps, motors, generators, chemical feed systems, compressors, valves, piping, diesel engines, and other critical equipment.

Solve Problems:

Investigate equipment issues, identify root causes, and determine effective corrective actions.

Build Technical Expertise:

Use blueprints, ladder diagrams, technical manuals, test equipment, and historical maintenance data to diagnose and repair equipment. Be Part of a

Skilled Team:

Work closely with operations and maintenance staff to keep facilities safe, efficient, and operational. About the Role As a Plant Mechanic , you will be responsible for: Installing, repairing, and maintaining pumps, motors, fans, chemical feed equipment, compressors, valves, piping, bulk chemical tanks, generators, diesel engines, dam gates, and building infrastructure. Inspecting equipment at programmed intervals through a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) . Performing preventative and predictive maintenance to help identify and address potential equipment issues before failures occur. Troubleshooting equipment problems and determining the source of mechanical issues reported by facility staff. Reading blueprints, pipe runs, ladder diagrams, technical manuals, and historical equipment data to support troubleshooting and corrective action. Using test equipment and other diagnostic tools to evaluate equipment performance. Documenting equipment problems, inspections, repairs, and maintenance activities. Generating and updating work orders through the computerized maintenance management system. Maintaining an inventory of parts and equipment needed for repairs and maintenance. Purchasing parts and materials through requisitions, procurement cards, or capital requests. Recommending equipment repairs, replacement, or other corrective actions to management based on equipment condition and maintenance needs. Qualifications Minimum Q ualifications : High school diploma /GED "OR" an equivalency of 3 years of education and 6+ years of related work experience in industrial, mechanical or electrical experience 4 years of related industrial, mechanical, electrical experience Valid Driver's License. Grade 1 (or higher) Certified Maintenance Technician (Must obtain within 18 months to remain in position). An Ideal Candidate Would Also Possess (Preferred Qualifications ): Grade 1 (or higher) Certified Maintenance Technician
