CITY OF POST FALLS CLASS SPECIFICATION PARK MAINTENANCE WORKER

04/08/2024 General Statement of Duties Performs semi-skilled and skilled maintenance and service work on buildings and grounds, and irrigation systems; operates equipment and machinery and performs related work as required. Classification Summary The primary function of an employee in this class is to perform maintenance, repair, inspection, and service work on City Parks, buildings and grounds, including irrigation systems, and playground structures. Additional duties include soil and plant cultivation, pesticide and fertilization applications, cleanup duties and public restroom cleaning and maintenance. The work is performed under the direct supervision of the Parks Maintenance Supervisor or Park Lead. The principal duties of this class are performed outdoors and will include working in adverse weather conditions and hazards involving the use of power tools, equipment and hazardous chemicals. Examples of Work (Illustrative Only) Essential Duties and Responsibilities • Performs maintenance and repair work on buildings, shelters, restrooms, and picnic areas, and other park structures; Performs general grounds maintenance, including mowing, trimming, weeding, aerating, and application of pesticides and fertilizers; Performs general landscape and cleanup duties, including trash and debris removal; Maintains and cleans public restroom facilities; Inspects, maintains, installs, and repairs benches, picnic tables, receptacles, playground structures, and signs; Maintains Park settings, trees, playgrounds, and other planting areas; Inspects and operates motorized, mechanical and groundskeeping equipment; Performs scheduled maintenance and repair and technical programing of automated cloud-based irrigation systems; Repairs vandalism and other damage; Provides information and answers inquiries from the public; Sets up for community and special events, reservations, and festivals; Park Maintenance Worker Successfully navigates and utilizes online GIS systems, and records daily work within asset management software Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with City policies, procedures, and safety practices. Other Duties and Responsibilities • Assists during construction projects; Will be required to work weekends, holidays, and irregular shifts and as well as scheduled on-call duties; May be asked to assist with burial services including, but not limited to, opening and closing lots, set ups, monument settings, and pall bearer; Performs other related duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of:
• Basic grounds maintenance skills, including but not limited to, mowing, planting, pruning, and fertilization;
Irrigation:
strong skill and knowledge base including new technologies and design principles. Horticulture, including turf and ornamental plant care; Familiarity with basic building maintenance; Applicable regulations and policies regarding safe work practices, including application of pesticides.
Ability to:
• Follow written and oral instructions; Operate power equipment, including but not limited to, groundskeeping equipment, riding and walk-behind mowers, trimmers, backhoe and tractor, and related equipment; Operate hand tools; Operate a motor vehicle, including a dump truck, front end loader, and trailer; Operate, adjust, and monitor automated irrigation control systems; Maintain maintenance records, logs, and documentation; Operate standard office equipment, including a personal computer and handheld tablets using program applications appropriate to assigned duties; Work weekends, evenings, and holidays, as needed; Communicate effectively with the public and other employees including in sensitive situations. Acceptable Experience and Training • High school diploma or GED equivalency; Two (2) to three (3) years landscape maintenance experience; or Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work. Park Maintenance Worker Special Qualifications 18 years old Valid Driver's License Pesticide certification on hire or ability to obtain within one (1) year of hire; First Aid and CPR certification within 6 months of hire. Essential Physical Abilities • Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to discern verbal instructions and communicate effectively in person; Sufficient visual acuity, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to comprehend written work instructions; Sufficient manual dexterity, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to operate a variety of heavy equipment, power and hand tools and to make adjustments to equipment; Sufficient strength to lift objects in excess of 75 pounds; Sufficient body mobility and flexibility to perform maintenance and repair operations and perform strenuous activities for extended periods of time in varied weather conditions.
