The Maintenance Employee performs a variety of routine and skilled manual labor duties necessary for the maintenance, repair, and operation of City streets, water and wastewater systems, facilities, vehicles, equipment, and other municipal infrastructure. The employee is expected to perform assigned duties safely, efficiently, and in a timely manner and may work independently or as part of a maintenance crew. Essential Duties and Responsibilities The following duties are representative of the position and are not intended to be all-inclusive: Repair and maintain water and sewer lines, meters, valves, and related systems. Read and record water meters. Perform street repairs, including pothole repair and concrete work. Operate and maintain City vehicles, tools, and equipment. Operate heavy equipment, including backhoes and similar equipment. Perform general maintenance of City buildings, grounds, streets, and utility systems. Respond to service calls, leaks, emergencies, and other maintenance needs. Follow all safety procedures. Perform other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities The successful employee should have the ability to: Perform manual labor and maintenance work safely and efficiently. Understand and follow oral and written instructions. Operate and maintain hand tools, power tools, vehicles, backhoes, and other heavy equipment associated with municipal maintenance operations. Work independently with minimal supervision and work cooperatively as a member of a team. Read and accurately record meter readings and other basic operational information. Identify routine maintenance problems and assist in determining appropriate repairs. Communicate effectively and courteously with supervisors, coworkers, and members of the public. Respond appropriately to emergency or urgent maintenance situations. Perform duties in varying weather conditions and work environments. Minimum Qualifications Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age. Must possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent. Must possess a valid Texas driver's license and maintain an acceptable driving record. Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation. Experience in general maintenance, construction, public works, water or wastewater operations, or a related field is preferred. Experience operating heavy equipment is preferred. Ability to obtain and maintain any licenses or certifications required for the position. Certifications and Licensing Must be able to obtain and maintain any licenses, certifications, or training required by the City or applicable regulations for assigned duties, including water or wastewater certifications, as applicable. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions This position requires regular physical activity, including standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling. The employee may be required to lift and move moderately heavy equipment and materials and work outdoors in varying weather conditions. The employee may be exposed to traffic, moving equipment, uneven terrain, confined spaces, water and wastewater systems, noise, dust, chemicals, and other conditions commonly associated with municipal maintenance work. Appropriate safety equipment and procedures must be always used.
Pay:
$17.00 - $20.00 per hour
