Lead Maintenance Technician

Job Description

Lead Maintenance Technician Location:
Royal Oak, MI Pay:
$30-32/hour, depending on experience and demonstrated skill
Employment Type:
Full-Time About MCMX:
MCMX is a modern, fast-growing home services company based in Royal Oak. We handle maintenance and renovation for a portfolio of single-family and small multifamily homes, primarily through our close partnership with a property management company. That means steady work, clear scopes, and minimal back-and-forth. We run on software we built ourselves, so your work orders, scopes, photos, tasks, and time all live in one app on your phone. Your hours are captured as you work, so payday isn't a negotiation. If something isn't working, tell us and we'll fix it. Our techs are the backbone of what we do, and we treat them that way. We promote from within and give good people the opportunity to take on more responsibility as they earn it. What Level Are You? At MCMX, we have a straightforward progression: Tech 1 needs direction and support to get the job done. Tech 2 can operate independently but is still building a complete residential skill set. Tech 3 can be handed a job and trusted to run with it. We're hiring for that third person. As a Lead Maintenance Technician, you'll report to a Project Manager and serve as the hands-on lead on assigned projects. The PM manages the project and performs final QC, but the lead tech is responsible for making sure the work gets done correctly, on time, and to the expected standard. Every project comes with a scope and punchlist. You own that punchlist in the field. When the PM arrives for final QC, the expectation is that the work is complete, the job is clean, and the obvious items have already been handled. What You'll Do Lead the hands-on execution of assigned maintenance and renovation projects Own the project punchlist and keep the work moving toward completion Perform a broad range of residential maintenance, repair, and renovation work Diagnose problems and determine the best way to solve them Work across multiple residential trades, including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, drywall, painting, flooring, HVAC, and general repair Complete unit turns, property repairs, renovations, and other projects as assigned Keep the job site clean, organized, and professional Source materials and supplies when needed Document work, photos, materials, and time through MCMX's mobile software Communicate with your Project Manager and raise issues early when something needs attention Occasionally complete maintenance work orders as needed You'll have other techs working with you on some projects, but you lead by doing the work, not by assigning it. What We're Looking For We're looking for a true do-it-all residential technician who can walk into a house, assess what's in front of them, and figure out how to get it done. Experience across a broad range of residential work is strongly preferred, including: Plumbing and plumbing repairs Electrical troubleshooting and basic repairs Carpentry and framing Drywall installation and repair Interior and exterior painting Flooring installation and repair HVAC troubleshooting Doors, trim, hardware, and finish work Appliance installation and repair General residential renovation and remodeling You do not need to be an expert in every trade. You do need to be highly capable across the board and comfortable taking ownership of a project. We're looking for someone who takes pride in the finished product, can solve problems independently, keeps projects moving, and knows when something is outside their skill set. If you genuinely can't handle something, we expect you to communicate that early rather than let it become a problem later. Requirements Strong hands-on residential maintenance and renovation experience Valid and active driver's license Reliable personal vehicle suitable for transporting your tools and getting to job sites Ability to lift 50+ lbs, climb ladders, and work in varying conditions Must be able to pass a background check Reliable attendance and strong follow-through Comfortable using a smartphone and mobile applications for work documentation Schedule Full-time, Monday through Friday. 9-5. No regular on-call rotation. Specific daily hours may vary based on the needs of the projects you're assigned to. What We Offer $30-32/hour , based on experience and demonstrated skill $180/quarter tool stipend $0.70/mile vehicle reimbursement PTO accrual starting immediately Paid major holidays starting immediately Full-time, steady work Clear opportunities for advancement Software and systems built specifically around the work you do A company that values skilled technicians and gives them the autonomy to do their jobs If You're a Tech 3 If we can give you a scope, put you on a project, and trust you to take it from there, this is the role for you. We're not looking for someone who needs to be told what to do every step of the way. We're looking for someone who knows how to do the work, takes ownership of the result, and understands that being the lead means the finished product is your responsibility. Apply today.
