JOB FUNCTION/ PURPOSE
The Meter Technician is a skilled position that involves work in the installation, maintenance, and reading of meters and related devices and equipment for measuring electric power, water service, natural gas service, and other related metering needs. This position requires daily interaction with other employees, City officials, and the public, and reports directly to the Public Works Supervisor.

RESPONSIBILITIES
ESSENTIAL
JOB FUNCTIONS
Installations/Removals and Maintenance of Electric Meters:
Installs, removes, and changes to meters and metering equipment routinely or as required. Verifies proper operation of meters and metering equipment using a variety of test equipment.
Meter Testing :
Performs accuracy and communication testing on meters using in-shop and field test equipment.
Advanced Technology :
Install, remove, and maintain the Williston Utility Services. Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) system. Install and remove data collectors. Troubleshoot and maintain AMI collectors, 900 MHz RF communications, and related circuits and equipment. Have working knowledge of the Itron Metering remote and FDS technologies.
Power Quality:
Investigates customer metering and complaints, uses various equipment to diagnose the problem and takes corrective measures if necessary.
Programming :
Assist in developing program parameters for meters. Programs meters and AMI collectors using personal computers and other electronic devices in-shop and in the field.
Customer Service:
Coordinate with Customers, Inspectors, Engineers, Electricians, and Contractors to schedule and complete jobs. It is imperative that the employee exhibit professional conduct as a representative of the City, remain calm in stressful situations, and when dealing with difficult customers.
Revenue Protection:
Investigate utility theft. Coordinate with Law Enforcement to process theft and tampering. Coordinate with States Attorney's office as needed regarding illegal use of utilities. Analyze data to detect and correct revenue losses.
Work Zone :
Diverse conditions including but not limited to: rain, extreme heat, extreme cold, rugged landscape, work in enclosed spaces and under low-light conditions, on and around equipment and conductors, and deal with aggressive animals.

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES
Valid Driver's License Required.
Florida Driver's License required
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS. AND ABILITIES
Must have the ability to make changes in daily routine to accommodate service demand.
Must have the ability to use independent judgement.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Must have the ability to meet deadlines.
Accurate record keeping of daily field work is mandatory.
Must be proficient with laptop and personal computers.
Experience with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and Access.
Must have the ability to distinguish colors.
Ability to detect and avoid hazardous conditions in the workplace.
Must have the ability to work from a highly elevated position.
Ability to work professionally with Department Heads, representatives of other agencies, other employees, and the public.
Ability to maintain security and confidentiality.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
High School diploma or equivalent.
Thorough knowledge of principals, practices and techniques of revenue metering required.
Moderate experience in customer service.
RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT
The employee must reside within 30 minutes of City Hall (50 NW Main Street) using a mapping program.

PHYSICAL AND DEXTERITY REQUIREMENTS
Physical and dexterity refers to the requirement for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement. Requires medium to heavy work that involves walking, standing, stooping, lifting, pushing, and raising objects and involves exerting between 20 to 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis and 50 to 100 pounds of force on an occasional basis.
ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARDS
Environmental hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken. The job may risk exposure to extreme heat and/or cold, bright/dim light, dusts and pollen, wet or humid conditions, extreme noise levels, animals/wildlife, vibrations, fumes and/or noxious odors, traffic, moving machinery, electrical shock, heights, disease/pathogens, toxic/caustic chemicals and explosives.
SENSORY REQUIREMENTS
Sensory ability refers to hearing, sight, touch, taste, and smell required by the job. The job requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, hearing, speaking, color perception, sense of smell, depth perception, and texture perception.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION/REQUIREMENTS
During periods when the City Mayor issues an emergency declaration for the City of Williston, all employees may be required to work in preparation, response or recovery activities related to the stated emergency.
