Job Description

Position Summary:
The Water Meter Technician performs entry-level technical work involving the testing, maintenance, and repair of water meters throughout the district. This position plays a key role in ensuring accurate metering of water usage and delivering exceptional service to our customers. Under the general supervision of the Meter Services Lead, the Technician will handle the installation, repair, programming, and troubleshooting of metering systems, and support operational efficiency through accurate and timely completion of work orders.
Key Responsibilities:
Meter Maintenance:
Install, remove, repair, test, and replace water meters and related components • Maintain detailed records of work performed and any issues encountered •
System Troubleshooting:
Program and diagnose issues with remote metering equipment. •
Customer Service:
Respond to customer inquiries and complaints regarding meter functionality and water usage. • Identify and report irregularities such as meter malfunctions, unauthorized usage. •
Inventory Management:
Maintain accurate inventory, ensuring loss prevention and control. •
Work Order Management:
Complete and update daily work orders using digital systems. •
Field Operations:
Turn water services on/off and restore work sites and landscaping to original condition. •
Safety Compliance:
Follow all safety protocols and use proper personal protective equipment. •
Team Collaboration:
Work with other departments and support overall utility service goals. •
Emergency Support:
Participate in on-call rotations, including evenings and weekends. •
Training & Development:
Attend meetings and training sessions as needed to maintain and grow technical knowledge.
Qualifications:
Valid driver's license with a clean driving record. Ability to walk long distances, bend, lift meter lids, and work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate data collection. Basic mechanical skills and the ability to identify equipment issues. Self-motivated with good time management and problem-solving skills. Must be able to pass a background check and drug screening. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
