Job Title:
Lead Millwright Job Description The Lead Millwright maintains, repairs, and improves industrial manufacturing equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations. This role troubleshoots complex mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems, leads machine installation and alignment activities, and supports continuous improvement projects across the facility. The position requires strong hands-on mechanical skills, the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and a commitment to safety and quality documentation. Responsibilities Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair industrial manufacturing equipment to minimize unplanned downtime and maintain production efficiency. Maintain and repair conveyor systems, pumps, motors, gearboxes, bearings, and power transmission components to ensure reliable operation. Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on production equipment and facility machinery according to established maintenance schedules. Install, align, dismantle, and relocate industrial machinery and equipment, ensuring proper setup and safe operation. Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic systems, including cylinders, valves, pumps, and hoses, to restore optimal performance. Troubleshoot and repair pneumatic systems, including air lines, valves, actuators, and related components. Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, mechanical drawings, and equipment manuals to plan and execute repair and installation work. Fabricate, weld, and modify machine components, guards, brackets, and structural supports as needed to support equipment reliability and safety. Use precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, and alignment tools to verify tolerances and perform accurate alignments. Conduct machinery inspections to identify wear, misalignment, vibration issues, and potential equipment failures before they impact production. Support equipment upgrades, new machine installations, and continuous improvement projects by providing mechanical expertise and hands-on support. Complete work orders, maintenance records, standard operating procedure documentation, and equipment logs accurately and in a timely manner. Safely operate hoists, lifts, cranes, and rigging equipment to move, position, and install machinery and components. Follow and enforce industrial safety procedures, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), confined space entry, and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Work closely with production, engineering, and maintenance teams to improve equipment reliability, reduce downtime, and enhance plant performance. Respond to emergency breakdowns and perform repairs quickly and effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Participate in predictive maintenance activities such as vibration analysis and condition monitoring to extend equipment life and prevent failures. Contribute to a strong safety culture by identifying hazards, reporting issues, and supporting continuous improvement in safety practices. Essential Skills Proven experience as a millwright, industrial mechanic, or maintenance mechanic working with industrial manufacturing equipment. Hands-on experience with machine installation, including setting, leveling, and securing equipment. Strong troubleshooting skills for mechanical systems, including conveyors, pumps, motors, gearboxes, bearings, and power transmission components. Proficiency in maintaining and repairing hydraulic systems, including advanced hydraulic troubleshooting and repair. Proficiency in maintaining and repairing pneumatic systems, including advanced pneumatic troubleshooting and repair. Ability to perform precision shaft alignment, with laser alignment experience preferred. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, mechanical drawings, and equipment manuals. Experience with welding and metal fabrication, including MIG, TIG, and Stick welding processes. Experience rebuilding gearboxes, bearings, and power transmission components. Rigging and crane operation skills for machinery installation, removal, and relocation. Competence using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, and alignment tools. Vibration analysis and predictive maintenance experience to support condition-based maintenance programs. Machine shop experience using equipment such as lathes, mills, and drill presses to machine parts and components. Ability to complete maintenance records, work orders, and equipment documentation accurately. Comfort working in a fast-paced, high-production industrial environment while managing multiple priorities. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience leading or mentoring other mechanics or technicians in a maintenance or millwright environment. Background in supporting equipment upgrades, new machine installations, and continuous improvement projects. Familiarity with standard operating procedures (SOPs) and maintenance best practices in industrial settings. Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with production, engineering, and maintenance teams. Commitment to safety, including consistent use of PPE and adherence to LOTO and other industrial safety procedures. Ability to adapt to changing schedules and work requirements, including responding to emergency breakdowns. After this period, the role transitions to a rotating schedule of 3 days on and 4 days off, followed by 4 days on and 3 days off, providing structured shift patterns in a continuous operation environment. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Franklin, IN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $88691.00 - $88691.00/yr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
