This position works with both portions of the system, with a primary emphasis on hardline coaxial splicing, network equipment installation, RF performance and outside-plant reliability. Projects may be performed on Comcast, Charter/Spectrum and other customer networks. Previous experience working to Comcast or Charter/Spectrum construction and maintenance standards is strongly preferred. This is an outside-plant network position and is not a residential cable-installation role. Essential Responsibilities Prepare, splice, connectorize and repair hardline coaxial cable. Perform node segmentation, system upgrades, equipment swaps and plant extensions. Assist with network activation, balancing and performance verification. Troubleshoot forward- and return-path RF impairments. Identify and correct signal loss, ingress, distortion, leakage and powering problems. Diagnose outages and restore damaged aerial or underground HFC facilities. Work with fiber technicians during node activations, cutovers and restoration events. Verify proper bonding, grounding, weatherproofing, cable preparation and equipment installation. Read and interpret system maps, design prints, splice diagrams, powering diagrams and construction documents. Perform work according to Comcast, Charter/Spectrum and other applicable customer specifications. Accurately document completed work, materials, signal readings, equipment changes and closeout information. Coordinate with supervisors, construction crews, fiber teams, network-maintenance personnel and customer representatives. Maintain assigned tools, test equipment, vehicles and safety equipment. Follow company and customer safety requirements at all times. Participate in scheduled maintenance windows, emergency restoration and after-hours assignments when required. Preferred Technical Experience Hardline coaxial cable preparation and splicing. HFC outside-plant construction and maintenance. Comcast and/or Charter/Spectrum network standards. Nodes, amplifiers, line extenders and passive devices. Forward- and return-path troubleshooting. Sweep and balance procedures. Signal-level testing and RF-performance verification. Leakage detection and ingress mitigation. AC network powering and power-supply troubleshooting. Fiber-node and coaxial-distribution architecture. Aerial and underground telecommunications facilities. Bucket-truck, ladder and confined-work-area operations. Qualifications Two or more years of HFC, broadband outside-plant, coaxial-splicing or network-maintenance experience preferred. Demonstrated ability to prepare and splice hardline coaxial cable correctly. Working knowledge of HFC signal flow, active equipment, passive equipment and powering. Ability to interpret system maps, design prints and technical documentation. Ability to use appropriate RF meters, leakage-detection equipment and standard hand and power tools. Experience working on Comcast or Charter/Spectrum systems is strongly preferred. Ability to troubleshoot network problems methodically and independently. Strong attention to workmanship, network reliability and documentation. Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers and customer representatives. Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record required. Ability to travel to assigned project locations throughout the service area. Ability to meet customer access, background-screening and drug-testing requirements when applicable. Physical and Working Requirements Work outdoors in changing weather conditions. Work from ladders, aerial lifts and bucket trucks. Work near active roadways, utility facilities and construction zones. Enter vaults, pedestals, cabinets and other restricted work areas. Lift, carry and position cable, tools, enclosures and network equipment. Stand, climb, bend, kneel and work in confined areas for extended periods.
