Karl's Hardware Tehachapi Small Engine & Rental Mechanic Karl's Hardware is seeking a reliable Small Engine & Rental Equipment Mechanic to support our customer repair department and maintain our rental fleet, including Bobcats, Kubota tractors, trenchers, and other equipment rented out by our store. This role ensures customer-owned equipment and rental units are safe, serviced, and ready for use.

Position Overview:

This position handles a mix of small engine repairs and rental equipment maintenance. You'll diagnose issues, perform repairs, complete preventative maintenance, and keep accurate service records. Work is performed in our on-site shop at the Tehachapi location. Key Responsibilities

• Small engine diagnostics — Troubleshoot and repair mowers, trimmers, chainsaws, generators, and similar equipment
• Rental fleet maintenance — Service Bobcats, Kubota tractors, trenchers, and other equipment used by rental customers
• Preventative maintenance — Maintain service schedules to ensure rental units are safe and reliable
• Customer communication — Explain repair needs, timelines, and care instructions
• Equipment intake & documentation — Log issues, track repairs, and maintain accurate service records
• Shop organization — Maintain a clean, safe, and organized workspace
• Seasonal workload management — Manage increased repair volume during peak seasons Qualifications
• Small engine experience — Prior mechanic experience preferred; strong mechanical aptitude considered
• Rental equipment familiarity — Experience with Bobcats, Kubota tractors, or similar compact equipment is a plus
• Diagnostic ability — Able to identify issues independently and efficiently
• Tool proficiency — Comfortable with standard and specialty tools
• Physical capability — Able to lift 50+ lbs and work in a shop environment
