Small Engine Technician Salary $38,502.00 - $44,279.00 Annually Location 225 Newburyport Avenue, Altamonte Springs, FL Job Type Full Time Job Number 202600089 Department Leisure Services Division Fleet Maintenance Opening Date 08/20/2026 FLSA Non-Exempt Description Benefits Questions Position Overview As a Small Engine Technician, you help keep the City moving by ensuring essential equipment is safe, reliable, and ready to work. Your expertise in preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs helps minimize downtime and keeps City crews equipped to serve the community every day. Position Functions Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on small engine equipment, to include handheld landscaping and maintenance equipment, all terrain utility vehicles, ride-on and walk-behind mowers, air compressors, portable generators, pressure washers, water pumps and chemical sprayers. Perform scheduled maintenance on small diesel engines, to include water pumps, wood chippers, tractors and all terrain utility vehicles. Complete necessary repairs to small engine equipment, to include engine repair and replacements, carburetors, tune ups, hydraulic and drive systems, transmissions, and all other worn or damaged components. Remove, replace and sharpen lawn equipment blades. Diagnose and repair faulty electrical system components to include starting and charging systems, electronic engine controls, lighting, accessories and wiring harnesses, etc. Utilize computerized work order system to create and enter work orders, research equipment history and account for labor times. Drive to and from various locations and perform service calls to equipment in the field. Perform additional duties as assigned. Be available for emergency call-outs. Communicate effectively with parts personnel to acquire both inventoried and special-order parts. In the event of an emergency, all employees are considered essential and may be required to perform duties outside of their normal job description. Complete required trainings as specified within the City Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan. Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Three (3) years' experience in small engine maintenance and repair to include: Stihl, Briggs & Stratton, Kohler, Kawasaki, and Honda experience. Valid driver license. Must obtain Florida driver license within thirty (30) days of employment.

PREFERABLE QUALIFICATIONS

Experience in diesel powered outdoor equipment repair. Kubota and/or Club Car Utility Cart experience. Experience in electric and battery powered landscape maintenance equipment Willingness to adopt AI and emerging technologies. Supplemental Information Applicants will be required to complete a Disclosure & Authorization Regarding Background Investigation, a Confidentiality Agreement and the CJIS (Criminal Justice Information Services) Security Clearance process to include national fingerprint-based records check and approval for controlled access to protected information. Driving history for the past three (3) years must reflect no violations of a driving related felony offense, or driving under the influence (DUI) which includes both drugs and alcohol, reckless driving, or hit and run involving an occupied vehicle or attended property, or an accumulation of traffic violations, plus three (3) points for each attendance at driving school (regardless of whether points were assessed against the license) where the penalty points do not exceed twelve (12).
