Job Summary We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Underground Utility Locator to join our dynamic field service team. In this vital role, you will be responsible for accurately identifying and marking underground utilities to ensure safe excavation and construction activities. Your expertise will help prevent costly damages, protect public safety, and support efficient project execution. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work outdoors, utilize advanced locating technology, and collaborate with construction teams on diverse projects within the energy and utilities sector. A strong commitment to safety, precision, and excellent client communication is essential for success in this role. Responsibilities Utilize utility locating devices such as ground-penetrating radar and electromagnetic locators to detect underground utilities including water, gas, electric, telecommunications, and other infrastructure. Interpret construction plans, site plans, schematics, and blueprints to accurately identify utility locations before excavation begins. Perform utility marking on construction sites using standardized color codes and markings in accordance with industry safety protocols. Conduct vacuum excavation for utility detection when necessary to verify underground utility positions safely. Operate company vehicles and equipment such as backhoes, forklifts, and other machinery required for site access or utility exposure. Maintain detailed records of utility locations, markings, and field observations for project documentation and client reporting. Communicate effectively with clients, contractors, and project managers to relay findings, coordinate work activities, and ensure compliance with safety standards. Qualifications Proven experience as a service technician or field technician in utility locating or related outdoor field service roles. Knowledge of land surveying techniques and the ability to interpret construction plans and blueprints accurately. Hands-on experience with utility locating tools including ground-penetrating radar (GPR), utility locating devices, and schematics reading. Familiarity with underground utilities such as water lines, gas pipes, electrical cables, telecommunications infrastructure, and related systems. Strong understanding of safety protocols specific to outdoor work environments and construction sites. Ability to operate construction equipment such as backhoes, forklifts, vacuum excavators, and company vehicles safely. Experience working in the energy & utilities sector or similar industries is highly preferred. Excellent client communication skills with a focus on professionalism and clarity during field operations. Physical ability to perform outdoor work in various weather conditions while maintaining attention to detail. Pay:
$19.00 - $28.84 per hour
