About the role Reporting to the Company's Operations Shift Supervisor, an exciting opportunity exists for Process Operator to join the Syrah team based in Vidalia, Louisiana. This role is responsible for the safe and efficient execution of all tactical manufacturing field activities aligned with priorities established for the production-to-plan strategy during their assigned shift. The Process Operator effectively communicates with the CRO, the Shift Supervisor, Operations Supervision, Safety, Process, Quality, & M&R to make material movements, take samples, adjust equipment, startup & shutdown, ensure continuous operation, & isolate & de-energize to comply with safety, quality, environmental, and production requirements.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Process Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently monitoring, operating, and optimizing plant operations to support shift production priorities and achieve production, quality, safety, environmental, and cost objectives. The Process Operator works closely with CROs, Material Handlers, Shift Supervisors, Maintenance & Reliability (M&R), Process Engineering, Quality, Logistics, and other stakeholders to ensure stable operations, promptly address process deviations & upsets, and support continuous improvement initiatives. Leadership Expectations The following responsibilities do not represent the entire list, and additional tasks may be assigned as required: Execute daily production plans to achieve volume targets and support plant performance against key operational KPIs. Operate plant equipment in accordance with approved operating procedures, production schedules, and work instructions. Support operational discipline by complying with established safety, environmental, and quality standards. Support the implementation and sustainment of operational systems, tools, and continuous improvement initiatives. Promote teamwork and collaboration between Operations, Maintenance & Reliability, Process Engineering, Quality, and Logistics personnel. Identify & escalate significant operational concerns, non-conformances, & risks Communicate process conditions, equipment status, production issues, & safety concerns to supervision and peers and support resolutions Assist in training, mentoring, and development of new and existing team members. Support succession planning efforts through cross-training, mentoring, and leadership development activities to build readiness for future Control Room Operator and Shift Supervisor step-up opportunities. Execute multidisciplinary plans to improve plant efficiency and OPEX optimization. Execute the implementation of multidisciplinary projects to improve plant efficiency and CAPEX optimization. Safety, Environmental & Compliance Promote a safe workplace by ensuring team members understand and comply with safety protocols while executing the production-to-plan strategy, projects, and equipment or procedural changes through the MOC process. Participate in safety incident investigations to ensure root causes are identified and proper corrective actions are implemented. Support SOP process reviews & provide feedback to ensure all SOPs are current & up to date in addition to ensuring compliance to Master Critical Risk Management processes Report all hazards, incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions in accordance with Syrah's peer-to-peer & hazard recognition reporting program. Maintain housekeeping standards throughout assigned operating areas. Technical & Process Excellence Assist CRO & Shift Supervisor in troubleshooting issues and unplanned situations. Monitor plant performance and operating conditions in the field and adjust as necessary to ensure compliance with established process parameters and specifications to achieve expected yield, quality, and cost targets Execute plant startup, shutdown, isolations, and emergency operation activities. Coordinate with operations & maintenance personnel in support of maintenance activities and work order execution impacting production. Assist in creating, revising, and implementing energy control plans, confined space entries, & work instructions & adhere to said procedures Escalate non-conformances and quality issues to the CRO & Shift Supervisor. Ensure inspections, rounds, & production documentation have been completed accurately and on time. Support the implementation of Lean tools and systems, focusing on operational excellence, prioritizing leading indicators, and maintaining alignment with ISO standards.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma and/or GED equivalent. Desired, but not mandatory: Degree or technical certification in a manufacturing-related discipline. Operational experience within the Chemical Manufacturing (or related) industry preferred. Full comprehension of Control Strategy SOPs. Strong technical understanding of batch and continuous process operations preferred. Strong process troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities Demonstrated ability to work safely and consistently follow procedures and regulations Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while remaining an effective team member. Ability to wear full chemical protective equipment and other required PPE Ability to climb multiple flights of stairs and safely work at elevated heights, lift 50 lbs. unassisted, 75 lbs. assisted, and push or pull 100 lbs. assisted, and walk or stand for extended periods of time. Strong computer literacy with proficiency in operational control & reporting systems. Working knowledge of Syrah Quality Management System (QMS) and
ISO 9001
2015 Standard. Ability to accurately interpret QA analytical results and respond properly to maintain quality. Ability to work rotating shifts, nights, weekends, holidays, & emergency response situations as required to work inside and outside in all-weather elements as required Key Competencies Demonstrated commitment to safety excellence and operational discipline.
