Chemical Production Operator Job Type:
Full-Time Shift:
12-hour rotating shifts (2-2-3 schedule)
Training:
Day shift, 7:00 AM-7:00 PM for the initial training period
Regular Shift:
Night shift, 7:00 PM-7:00 AM Job Summary The Production Operator is responsible for the safe, efficient, and timely manufacturing of multiple product lines. This position operates and monitors chemical processing equipment, prepares batches according to established procedures, performs quality checks and product adjustments, and troubleshoots process and equipment issues. The successful candidate will work closely with production leaders, operators, and laboratory personnel to maintain product quality, meet production goals, and ensure a safe and reliable manufacturing environment. Key Responsibilities Safely prepare chemical batches according to batch sheets, SOPs, and established manufacturing procedures. Operate and monitor reactors, scrubbers, heat exchangers, filter presses, pumps, cooling towers, and other process equipment. Operate manual, PLC-controlled, and computerized process systems, including DCS, Wonderware, Citech, and local PLC controls. Perform calculations and product adjustments using specific gravity, pH, and other process measurements to ensure products meet customer specifications. Load and unload products from tankers, railcars, totes, drums, bulk bags, and other packaging. Safely operate forklifts and yard equipment as required. Monitor equipment performance, identify abnormalities, troubleshoot process issues, and escalate problems when necessary. Collect product samples and coordinate with laboratory personnel to verify product quality and make required adjustments. Accurately complete batch sheets, scale tickets, production records, and other required documentation. Communicate effectively with shift leaders, coworkers, and laboratory personnel regarding production status, process changes, equipment conditions, safety concerns, and shift objectives. Operate multiple machines and pieces of equipment throughout various production areas, including ACQ, Specialty, Eco Life, Tank Farm, Warehouse, and other assigned areas. Follow all environmental, health, and safety procedures, including proper use and maintenance of required PPE. Participate in company training programs and continuous improvement initiatives. Work collaboratively with team members from diverse backgrounds and support overall production and company objectives. Perform additional duties as assigned by management. Qualifications High school diploma or GED required. At least 2 years of manufacturing experience preferred. Chemical manufacturing experience is preferred; mechanical or other industrial manufacturing experience may be considered. Certified Production Technician credentials may be considered in lieu of manufacturing experience. Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills. Ability to perform basic calculations and accurately follow detailed procedures. Basic proficiency with computers, email, internet, and Microsoft Office programs. Previous forklift operating experience required or strongly preferred. Yard switcher or other mobile equipment experience is a plus. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to recognize errors, equipment malfunctions, process deviations, and documentation issues. Must be detail-oriented and able to work effectively in a team environment. Ability and willingness to wear a full-face respirator and other required PPE. Physical & Work Environment Requirements This position requires the ability to: Frequently push, pull, bend, twist, reach, lift, and carry materials weighing 50+ pounds. Stand and walk for extended periods. Frequently operate forklifts, including during night shifts. Climb stairs and ladders and work at elevated heights. Work in confined or tight spaces. Wear required PPE, including respirators and chemical protective suits. Work around continuous or intense noise. Work with both hazardous and non-hazardous materials. Work in areas exposed to varying environmental conditions, including extreme heat and cold. Work in low-light conditions and during overnight hours. Work a 12-hour rotating shift schedule. Work overtime or additional hours when necessary to support production requirements.
Pay:
$22.00 - $25.00 per hour
