As a CNC Programmer, you will translate engineering drawings and design models into reliable, production-ready programs that achieve tight tolerances, maintain material quality, and support efficient manufacturing. You will take ownership of the programming process from initial review and simulation through prove-out and production release. Key Responsibilities Develop and optimise CNC programs for architectural metal components, ensuring first-off parts meet drawing specifications, dimensional tolerances, and finish requirements. Improve setup and cycle times across repeat and bespoke jobs by standardising toolpaths, fixtures, and proven programming methods. Minimise material waste and secondary finishing operations through effective tooling selection, feeds and speeds, and nesting strategies. Verify new and revised programs using simulation, first-piece inspection, and documented approval before production release. Incorporate engineering changes and drawing revisions within agreed timescales, identifying manufacturing risks and design issues early. Support machine operators with setup guidance, tooling offsets, and in-process inspection requirements to ensure consistent results across shifts. Monitor programming performance, including scrap, downtime, and recurring quality issues, and implement improvements to address root causes. Working Environment You will work closely with manufacturing engineering, production, quality, and design teams in a precision-focused metal fabrication environment. Reporting to manufacturing leadership, you will take responsibility for program release, tooling recommendations, and process improvements on assigned machines. You will have access to established CAD/CAM systems, CNC controllers, inspection equipment, and a structured library of programs and tooling data to support consistency, traceability, and continuous improvement. Essential Skills and Experience Demonstrable experience in CNC programming for sheet metal or plate, including complex profiles, hole patterns, and finish-critical features. Practical experience with CAD/CAM software and G-code, including program editing, simulation, and machine-level prove-out. Strong understanding of tooling, workholding, feeds and speeds, and their impact on dimensional accuracy, flatness, edge quality, and productivity. Ability to interpret fabrication and engineering drawings, GD&T requirements, and revision changes and convert them into effective manufacturing processes. Evidence of improving scrap rates, setup times, cycle times, or rework through programming and process optimisation. Confident communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with operators and engineers and raise manufacturability concerns constructively. What the Role Offers The opportunity to contribute to architectural metalwork used in high-quality building projects. A varied workload combining bespoke fabrication with repeat production. Direct involvement in translating design concepts into practical, efficient manufacturing processes. A collaborative environment where technical expertise and programming quality make a measurable difference. The opportunity to develop standardised programming methods, strengthen process control, and improve production capability. Interested? If you can turn complex drawings into reliable CNC programs, maintain high standards of finish and accuracy, and continually improve manufacturing performance, we would like to hear from you. Please apply with details of your CNC programming experience, examples of relevant projects, and measurable improvements you have delivered.
