Painter Supervisor Job Description The Painter Supervisor oversees daily operations of an automotive painting and body work department, ensuring production schedules are met, technical quality standards are maintained, and safety procedures are consistently followed. This role combines hands-on automotive painting expertise with leadership, training, and administrative responsibilities to support a high-performing, stable production environment. Responsibilities Assign and oversee daily work assignments for the hourly production team to ensure production schedules and customer commitments are consistently met. Review department work to verify technical accuracy, finish quality, and compliance with customer specifications and requirements. Coordinate and manage technical training for new hires, ensuring they understand painting processes, quality standards, and safety procedures. Crosstrain employees in various painting, body work, and related tasks to maximize skills, flexibility, and overall team efficiency. Provide regular feedback to leadership to maintain an accurate and up-to-date skills matrix for all team members. Manage the daily tool control process, ensuring all tools, equipment, and painting materials are properly tracked, maintained, and available for use. Ensure all communication with engineering, maintenance, and purchasing is documented via email and maintained in an organized manner. Order required tools, parts, and materials through SAP or similar systems as needed to support ongoing production and maintenance activities. Communicate daily with the team regarding job assignments, production priorities, and any changes to schedules or requirements. Perform regular safety audits within assigned areas and complete all required daily, weekly, and monthly safety and compliance documentation. Handle administrative tasks such as scheduling, data entry, and documentation related to production, training, and safety. Provide hands-on support in automotive painting and body work as needed, with a focus on supervising the team while performing some painting tasks. Support continuous improvement initiatives in painting processes, quality control, and workflow efficiency. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering and maintenance, to resolve technical issues impacting painting and body work operations. Essential Skills Proven experience in automotive painting and body work within a production or manufacturing environment. Demonstrated lead or supervisory experience in a painting setting, with the ability to direct and support an hourly production team. Strong understanding of automotive painting processes, materials, and quality standards. Ability to perform and oversee auto body repair and refinishing work. Experience managing daily work assignments, scheduling, and production priorities. Competence in administrative tasks, including scheduling, data entry, and documentation. Ability to conduct safety audits and complete required safety documentation on a regular basis. Experience managing tools and equipment, including tool control processes and basic maintenance oversight. Effective communication skills for coordinating with engineering, maintenance, and purchasing teams via email. Capability to balance supervisory responsibilities with hands-on painting work, with an approximate mix of 80% supervision and 20% painting. Additional Skills & Qualifications Bilingual English and Spanish skills are preferred but not required. Experience using SAP or similar systems for ordering tools, parts, and materials. Background in carpentry or related trades that support body work and structural repair tasks. Experience in cross-training team members to expand skill sets and improve operational flexibility. Familiarity with automotive manufacturing environments and production workflows. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in maintaining documentation and records. Why Work Here? Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
