Dairyfood USA, one of the largest specialty cheesemakers in North America, is currently hiring a 1st shift Maintenance Technician - Eletrical & Controls, at our production facility located in the heart of America's Dairyland, Blue Mounds, WI.
Job Purpose:
This position is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and improving the electrical and automation systems that support cheese processing and packaging operations. This position focuses on PLC-controlled equipment, motor controls, instrumentation, and industrial electrical systems to maximize equipment reliability, minimize downtime, and ensure compliance with food safety and workplace safety standards.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair electrical, electronic, and PLC-controlled production equipment. Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on industrial electrical systems and automated processing equipment. Troubleshoot and modify PLC programs as needed to support production and improve equipment performance. Diagnose faults using PLC software, HMI interfaces, electrical schematics, and diagnostic tools. Install, wire, test, and commission electrical equipment, control panels, sensors, motors, VFDs, and instrumentation. Maintain and troubleshoot motor control centers (MCCs), power distribution systems, and 120V-480V electrical equipment. Calibrate and maintain process instrumentation including temperature, pressure, flow, and level devices. Troubleshoot servo systems, proximity sensors, photo eyes, encoders, safety circuits, and machine vision components where applicable. Perform electrical installations and upgrades in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and company standards. Read and interpret electrical schematics, ladder logic, P&IDs, and equipment manuals. Support maintenance of cheese processing equipment including grinders, blenders cookers, pumps, conveyors, packaging equipment, steam boliers, refrigeration systems, and compressed air systems. Assist with startup, shutdown, equipment commissioning, and production changeovers. Utilize CMMS software to document work orders, repairs, preventive maintenance activities, and equipment history. Participate in root cause failure analysis and implement corrective actions to improve equipment reliability. Work collaboratively with production and engineering teams to improve automation, efficiency, and equipment performance. Maintain compliance with GMP, HACCP, OSHA, food safety, and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures. Respond to equipment breakdowns and emergency maintenance calls in a timely manner. Required Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required. Technical degree or certification in Industrial Maintenance, Industrial Electricity, Electrical Technology, Mechatronics, or a related field preferred. Three or more years of industrial electrical maintenance experience, preferably in food, dairy, or manufacturing environments. Demonstrated experience troubleshooting PLC-controlled equipment. Working knowledge of Allen-Bradley and/or Siemens PLC platforms. Experience with variable frequency drives (VFDs), motor controls and starters, Industrial networking and communications, HMIs and SCADA systems, industrial sensors and instrumentation, and pneumatic and hydraulic control systems Ability to safely troubleshoot energized electrical systems using appropriate PPE and safe work practices. Proficiency reading electrical schematics and control drawings. Basic mechanical troubleshooting skills. Strong computer skills and experience with CMMS software Preferred Qualifications PLC programming and editing experience. Experience with Ethernet/IP, DeviceNet, or Profinet industrial communication networks. Electrical license or journeyman certification preferred. Arc Flash and
