Job Description

About the Role As a Senior Gear Technician, you will serve as a technical authority for complex power transmission components, leveraging your deep expertise in gear geometry and mechanical systems. You will drive the precision manufacturing and restoration process, ensuring that every component meets rigorous industrial standards while mentoring the production team. Responsibilities Analyze and characterize gear specifications including tooth geometry, pressure angles, and pitch through physical inspection. Execute the production of replacement gears and custom components using advanced CNC and manual machining centers. Validate component integrity by performing detailed inspections for runout, surface finish, and dimensional accuracy. Restore worn or damaged gear systems, including tooth profile correction and hub modifications. Translate complex engineering drawings and AGMA specifications into actionable manufacturing plans. Collaborate with engineering teams to reverse-engineer legacy parts where technical documentation is unavailable. Provide expert guidance on material science, heat treatment protocols, and surface finishing techniques. Act as the primary technical resource for gear-related inquiries and provide hands-on training to staff. Required Skills Extensive background in precision gear manufacturing, repair, or industrial gearbox maintenance. Advanced proficiency in identifying gear parameters through manual inspection and measurement. Hands-on experience with hobbing, shaping, grinding, or multi-axis CNC equipment. Technical mastery of gear inspection tools, including analytical CMM and lead/involute measurement devices. Strong command of AGMA quality standards, blueprint reading, and GD&T. Preferred Skills Direct experience with large-scale industrial or marine-grade gearing systems. Completion of a formal apprenticeship or trade certification in precision machining. Background in mechanical engineering or related technical disciplines. Proficiency in CAD/CAM software for gear design and toolpath generation.
