Position Overview We are seeking experienced Mechanical Integration Technicians to support a major space program in Palo Alto, CA. This position is responsible for the mechanical integration, assembly, and testing of satellite communication systems, spacecraft bus assemblies, main body structures, top assemblies, and associated ground support equipment. The successful candidate will interpret engineering drawings, work instructions, and technical specifications to assemble complex flight hardware. This role requires hands-on experience with precision mechanical assembly, structural bonding, spacecraft handling, and work performed in highly controlled environments. Key Responsibilities Perform mechanical assembly, integration, and testing of communication satellites and ground support equipment. Install active and passive flight components according to engineering drawings, specifications, and approved procedures. Assemble and install structural components, RF waveguides, electronic boxes, coaxial cables, wiring harnesses, antennas, and thermal blankets. Perform critical structural bonding, adhesive bonding, thermal compound bonding, and component torquing operations. Assist Mechanical Vehicle Engineers in developing and improving assembly and testing methods, work sequences, assembly aids, and test setups. Support spacecraft movement, positioning, lifting, and handling activities. Assemble, inspect, and check out mechanical ground support equipment. Set up and support mechanical test equipment and related testing activities. Maintain accurate production and quality documentation, including: Assembly sequence instructions Rework shop orders Component installation logs Mate/demate logs Task and activity logs Operate cranes, man lifts, tugs, and other material-handling equipment. Follow all applicable safety, quality, contamination-control, and flight-hardware procedures. Provide technical guidance and hands-on training to junior personnel. Required Qualifications 2-4 years of related mechanical assembly, aerospace integration, manufacturing, or technician experience. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, work instructions, and assembly procedures. Hands-on experience assembling complex mechanical parts and systems. Working knowledge of mechanical assembly methods, fasteners, torque requirements, bonding processes, and precision tools. Experience maintaining detailed manufacturing, assembly, or quality documentation. Ability to work independently while collaborating with engineers, technicians, quality personnel, and other cross-functional teams. Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety, quality, and procedural compliance. Ability to work the assigned day, swing, or weekend shift. Preferred Qualifications Previous experience supporting satellite, spacecraft, aerospace, defense, or other high-reliability hardware. Experience with flight-hardware integration, structural bonding, RF components, cable harnesses, antennas, or thermal blankets. Experience operating cranes, man lifts, tugs, or specialized handling equipment. Familiarity with electrostatic discharge controls, contamination control, and controlled manufacturing environments. Physical and Workplace Requirements Candidates must be able to: Lift and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds. Work from ladders up to 18 feet high. Work from platforms and man lifts up to 40 feet high. Work in confined spaces, including spacecraft interiors, thermal vacuum chambers, and acoustic chambers. Work while lying flat on their chest on an extended platform for significant portions of the shift. Perform repetitive reaching, bending, climbing, standing, and precision assembly activities. Remain within the rated weight capacity of ladders, platforms, and specialized access equipment. Wear required personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, safety shoes, hearing protection, and fall-protection equipment. Required Training and Certifications The selected candidate must be able to obtain and maintain required internal certifications, including: ESD awareness Contamination control Flight-hardware handling DC connector mate/demate Adhesive bonding Thermal compound bonding Component torquing Equipment and workplace safety procedures Qualified candidates with mechanical integration, aerospace assembly, spacecraft, aviation, defense, or other complex electromechanical manufacturing experience are encouraged to apply. #IND3
